Hunting the Northern Lights in Russia on a full moon night
Aurora Hunter (-10C) ❄️ No Aurora hunting, go north or south of the city. The guide will open the app to see which path the light will come up according to the kp value.
What Dai will tell us throughout the trip is, come down quickly (when you see the Aurora), stay still, don't move (when taking pictures).
Note: On both hunting days, there were a lot of cloud and wind disturbances. The full moon was very bright. Just seeing a thin line was good enough. #Cold as hell in Russia #Travel in Russia #Hunting for the Aurora #Traveling abroad

Aurora in Murmansk: Nature’s Light Show With a Side of Cold
#auroralight
If you thought chasing the Northern Lights was all about cozying up in a warm cabin with hot cocoa, think again. Welcome to Murmansk, Russia, where the Aurora Borealis isn’t just a light show—it’s a frosty adventure wrapped in layers of clothing. Located above the Arctic Circle, Murmansk offers one of the best front-row views of the Northern Lights, and yes, it’s as spectacular as it sounds (but also freezing—bring the thermal socks).
From late September to March, Murmansk’s skies light up with vibrant colors—green, pink, purple—creating an awe-inspiring spectacle that’ll make you feel like you’ve stepped into an abstract painting. You might want to bundle up, though, as temperatures can plunge below freezing, turning your breath into visible ice. But don’t worry, the Aurora’s beauty will keep you warm—or at least distract you from the cold long enough to snap the perfect photo.
When you’re not staring at the sky, there’s plenty to do in Murmansk—check out the Russian icebreaker, the ship that conquers the Arctic seas, or enjoy local cuisine (we’re talking reindeer, not reindeer sweaters). So, come for the lights, stay for the adventure—and maybe pack a few extra scarves.
