Natural scenery
Mungo National Park is located in the World Heritage Willandra Lakes Willandra Lakes, a dry lake chain between Willandra Creek and part of the Lachlan River main waterway in inland New South Wales. Lake Mungo dried up about 14,000 years ago, and today a large crescent-shaped dune, known as the China Wall, stretches along the eastern shore of the lake. Although barren and fragile, the interior of New South Wales has been rocky and rugged for thousands of years. The beauty has always been appreciated by the indigenous people of this area. Mutawintji National Park is dotted with Aboriginal art, some of which are said to be 30,000 years old. In Mungo National Park, the remains of the Mungo man and Mungo woman are said to be 40,000 years old, the oldest known burial site in the world. Because of its significance to humanity, Lake Mungo has been listed as part of the Willandra Lakes World Heritage Site. The outback is vast and full of adventure, full of emus and opal mines.
