Those planning to come to Tibet in June must see this
6⃣ June in Tibet, I would call it the best time to travel🎈! Not to mention the fewer people and beautiful scenery, it coincides with Tibet's rainy season, the air is more humid, and the oxygen content is at its highest throughout the year🫁, making it less likely to suffer from altitude sickness. During the day, temperatures usually range between 20 - 25 degrees Celsius, and at night, they are around 10 - 15 degrees, neither cold nor hot, making it an especially good season for visiting👏.
First, you need to choose a mode of transportation that suits you, based on your financial situation and time availability. Taking a plane✈ takes less time, while a train🚞 allows you to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way, but it requires more time.
June in Tibet is also during the traditional festival 'Saga Dawa Festival', which is one of the grander ethnic traditional festivals in Tibet. Various ceremonies and traditional dance performances are held during this period, and the festival usually lasts for a month🔥
🌟Attraction Recommendations
📍Potala Palace: Standing on the Red Hill, it is the highest palace in the world👍.
📍Jokhang Temple: The first Buddhist temple in Tibet, built by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo. Every day, a large number of devout followers come to Jokhang Temple to prostrate and worship🙏.
📍Everest Base Camp: Located at an altitude of 5200 meters, it is one of the best places to view the world's 1⃣ highest peak - Mount Everest🏔.
📍Namtso: Known as 'Heavenly Lake', it is surrounded by beautiful scenery, with the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains stretching in the distance🌄.
📍Yamdrok Lake: Considered by locals to be 'turquoise earrings scattered by a goddess'. The lake water changes into a myriad of blue hues with the sunlight, which is breathtaking💙.
📍Sacred Mountain and Holy Lake Scenic Area: Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar in western Tibet's Ngari are the most popular tourist attractions, and June is also the best time to visit. Lake Manasarovar, one of the most beautiful high-altitude lakes in Tibet, is located at an altitude of 4718 meters within the Gangdise mountain range and is known as one of the 'three great holy lakes' of Tibet; while Mount Kailash is one of the most sacred Buddhist mountains in Tibet and a famous pilgrimage site🙏.
‼Precautions
⚠Ensure you get plenty of sleep the day before departure, do not catch a cold, and if you have a cold, it is not recommended to come to Tibet😷
⚠Do not bathe or wash your hair for the first two days after arrival, as the climate in Tibet has a large temperature difference between morning and evening, and bathing can cause rapid evaporation of water, which can lead to a cold due to the quick loss of body heat❄
⚠The distances between various scenic spots in Tibet are long, so it's a good idea to carry some small snacks like chocolate, cola, beef jerky, etc., to replenish your energy🍫
⚠The outdoor UV rays are strong, and the sunlight is dazzling during the day, so it's best to bring sunscreen, a sun hat, and sunglasses🕶 to protect your skin and eyes.
⚠It is advisable to find a local tour group or leader in advance for a more worry-free experience🤗
⚠People with severe hypertension, heart disease, respiratory diseases, and other conditions not recommended by doctors should not travel to Tibet💊
Are you ready for a trip to Tibet😃

5200m Everest Base Camp
pretty windy up here!!! from Shigatste, the second largest city in Tibet, I spent a day driving off road to finally get to the base of the Everest, on Mount Qomolangma…and from here to the base camp at 5200 meters above the sea level.
This is the North side of Mount Everest, that belong to China.
Quite a few yaks around, seems they enjoy the peace of this magical place!

Amazing trip to Tibet and Everest Base Camp
To get there, one must enlist the service of a tour company. They will take care first and foremost your permit to travel. One is recommended to acclimatize days before doing the actual trip around Tibet and heading to see the highest mountain in the world. We stayed at various 4-Star hotels in prior to heading to the base camp where we stayed at local tents with good heating system. The tent owner will take care of you including bedding and food. What an amazing experience!

Everest Base Camp has a temperature of -10° at 1 am and a car ride from Shigatse for 8 hours. After three hundred twists and turns in three border checkpoints, it finally reaches Everest Base Camp. At first, the fog of the mountains and the peaks of Mount Everest cannot be reached. I noticed that until 22 o'clock, the fog dissipated, and I heard someone shouting that the sky was so beautiful. Then I wore a down jacket and a jacket with a tripod and a SLR to go out to shoot the stars. The starry sky of Everest is definitely one of the most beautiful stars I have ever seen. Shooting near zero, the dark night was illuminated by a flash of lightning, Everest was completely illuminated, and the majestic Mount Everest appeared in front of me for the first time. Thanks to the more frequent lightning, I was able to record differently. Everest.

The winding road to Everest Base Camp
One of the must-visit destinations in Tibet is undoubtedly Mount Everest. The Everest Base Camp, situated at an altitude of 5,150 meters, is not easy to reach. I remember we started our journey at 5 AM, passing through five checkpoints along the way. The winding mountain road with its numerous twists and turns was quite daunting even from inside the car. Our driver was exceptionally skilled, and we finally arrived at the base camp at 2 PM, taking a total of 9 hours for the one-way trip. We could only stay at the base camp for half an hour because the return journey also took 9 hours. We didn't get back to the hotel until 11 PM, having spent the entire day in the car. It was an extremely arduous day, especially for our driver who drove for 18 hours straight. He must have been even more exhausted than we were.

99% of people miss the stunning starry sky and Milky Way at Yamdrok Lake
Life advice: You must come to Yamdrok Lake to see the starry sky and Milky Way at least once. It's so beautiful it will bring you to tears‼️
.
When night falls, the lake is no longer the azure mirror of the day but transforms into a reflection of the vast universe. Countless stars✨ lightly dance on the water's surface, making you feel as if you are in the Milky Way. This is the ultimate romance the universe gifts us~
.
🌌【Why recommend stargazing at Yamdrok Lake?】
✔️Yamdrok Lake has a pure environment with little light pollution and high atmospheric transparency, making it an excellent stargazing spot.
✔️Yamdrok Lake's altitude is 4441m, much lower than the 5200m of Everest Base Camp, making it less likely to cause altitude sickness, and the accommodation conditions are better, so your body won't suffer as much.
✔️Without the daytime crowds, you can enjoy the lake and the Milky Way in peace. If you stay at the Yamdrok Lake campsite, you can also experience both sunrise and sunset.
.
📸【Starry Sky Photography Tips】
1⃣️Time: The best months for shooting in the Northern Hemisphere are generally from April to September. Avoid shooting around the 15th of the lunar month.
2⃣️Composition: Remember to include some foreground to avoid monotony. The foreground can be a characteristic tent, mountain peak, vehicle, person, etc.
3⃣️Photography Equipment: It's best to use a full-frame camera, but APS-C cameras and smartphones can also work. The larger the aperture, the better. Set ISO between 1600-3200 and shutter speed around 15-25 seconds.
.
🌟【Yamdrok Lake Stargazing Tips】
1) The temperature drops at night, so be sure to keep warm and bring a thick coat.
2) You can bring some props to make shooting easier: flashlight, lantern, fairy lights, etc.
3) It is recommended to stay at the starry sky campsite in Yamdrok Lake⛺️, which is more convenient and comfortable, allowing you to "sleep with the stars and mountains as your companions."

Three-day tour to Everest Base Camp
📌 The ticket office is very! very! very far from the scenic area! The shuttle bus takes an hour . It seems that private cars can drive into the first part of the journey because there are many villages, small shops, and accommodations there. However, private cars seem to be prohibited further in, and only scenic area vehicles are allowed?
📌 The imagined climb of Everest: snow-capped mountains🏔️, cold wind, down jackets, extreme challenges, life-and-death struggle with nature❌
The reality of climbing Everest: Everest Base Camp, flat ground, almost no climbing, not very cold but very windy, mountains with snow caps⛰️ are very far away⭕ (Climbing Everest is a project for the wealthy, Everest Base Camp is prepared for ordinary people, it's actually just to feel the atmosphere from afar)
📌 Altitude sickness issue: If you have already stayed in Tibet or the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau for a few days and have adapted, then coming to Everest should be no problem. Just bring a small oxygen bottle from the city, priced at 💰10-15, there's no need to buy those specialized oxygen bottles costing hundreds (no refunds whether they work or not, and you have to return them). As for military coats, if you go during the day, it's not that cold and you don't really need to rent one, you can save a lot of money. However, if your body is relatively weak, you can prepare one just in case.
📌 There are tents⛺ at Everest Base Camp where you can stay overnight, but you need to book in advance. They are large tents divided into shared and standard rooms, but it seems like they are just separated by curtains, with shared bathrooms.
📌 Shuttle buses run from 6:30 to 21:30.
📌 If you don't stay at Everest Base Camp, you can stay at the foot of the mountain (whether on the mountain or at the foot, it's still within the scenic area, and you can take the shuttle bus directly). There are homestays run by Tibetans with Tibetan characteristics, but the conditions are generally not very good. If you have high accommodation requirements, it might not be suitable (it's recommended to stay in newly built and newly opened hotels). When we went in, there were girls👧🏻 from other groups who couldn't get used to it and left directly. There is basically no decoration inside, very primitive, some rooms are separated by cardboard without bathrooms. The advantage is that you live with Tibetans and can see authentic Tibetan-style decorations (the conditions are really not good, but don't shout about it directly, because this is the living condition of many local Tibetans. Water resources are scarce, and the economic conditions are not developed. Even if you are not used to it, please don't say it directly in front of them, it will hurt them).

Mount Everest Base Camp Guide!
💰 Prices have increased in summer, around 700
10:21 Arrive at Shigatse, around 10:40 gather at the train station parking lot 🅿️. First come, first served for seating, the journey takes nearly 8 hours in one day.
11:30 Process the border pass, bring your ID card, it takes about 5 minutes to complete. ⚠️ Be sure to keep the border pass safe, you won't be allowed in if it's lost.
12:00 Arrive at the place to collect coats and oxygen cylinders. Check if the group notice includes military coats and 3L oxygen bottles. A 3L bottle's two-day rental is 136, I returned mine directly.
⚠️ Safety first, about 5 people in our group experienced altitude sickness and used up most of the oxygen. I had already acclimatized in Tibet for a week and brought an extra bottle, two 800ml bottles were enough, and I only used one in the end. If you're not wearing cotton clothes, you can rent a military coat, be sure to wear a warm hat, a baseball cap will make your head hurt from the wind.
14:00 Lunchtime
15:00 Start crossing the 108 turns of Everest, this part can easily cause motion sickness. I put a motion sickness patch on my forehead and drank some herbal medicine. One of our teammates vomited during the turns.
18:00 Take the scenic area shuttle bus, bring your luggage 🧳
18:40 Arrive at Everest Base Camp, find your tent, place your luggage, collect instant noodles, and then go check in.
19:00 The altitude of the base camp is around 5000 meters, you'll still get out of breath after walking for a while. Breathe oxygen and drink warm water in time. ⚠️ If you're staying at the base camp overnight, don't queue for photos now, there are really a lot of people, at least a 40-minute wait ➕ and there are people maintaining order.
Around 20:40, the magical golden sunset on the mountains appears, remember not to hurry away, there will be deeper golden light later.
🚗21:30 The last shuttle bus down the mountain is at this time. If you have severe altitude sickness, you can choose to stay in the village at the foot of the mountain, at an altitude of about 4200 meters. I stayed at the base camp, where the standard rooms in the tents are actually separated, and the atmosphere in the big dormitory is quite good. Everyone sleeps in their clothes, and the air conditioning is turned off after midnight. Above this, don't think about taking a shower, the restrooms are like those mobile toilets at music festivals.
🎶22:00-23:00 The base camp will have a wild disco, with mobile phones flashing, it's really the look of youthful enthusiasm.
Day2️⃣01:00 After checking the rooms, the base camp turns off the lights, and you can go out to see the starry sky 🌃
07:00 Get up to watch the sunrise, this is when you can open the Everest monument, and there are fewer people, less than a 5-minute queue.
07:30-08:30 You can take the shuttle bus down the mountain in succession, usually taking the one at 8 o'clock
09:30 After everyone gathers, depart back to Shigatse train station, the route is the same as when you came, lunch at 12:00, arrive at Shigatse train station around 16:15. I recommend taking the 7 o'clock train back to Lhasa, the one at 4 o'clock is very risky. 🚞

Warm Tips
1⃣Altitude sickness: The average altitude in the Ali region is above 4500+, it is recommended for first-timers to Tibet to prepare oxygen bottles in advance and use them when feeling uncomfortable. It will not cause dependence, and Rhodiola is useless. It is best to have some glucose or candy in your mouth at all times.
⚠I had no altitude sickness throughout the journey, be careful not to jump around at high altitudes.
2⃣Food and lodging: Basically staying in county towns, clean hotels with electric blankets, private bathrooms, or floor heating, non-oxygenated rooms need to bring their own oxygen. Breakfast is mostly 20 yuan per person, lunch is Sichuan or Northeastern cuisine, not particularly delicious but filling.
⚠It is recommended to bring your own snacks to eat on the road, as meals may not be on time.
3⃣Restrooms: In the Ali region, due to limited conditions, many restrooms in the wilderness are dry toilets without water for washing hands.
⚠Those with a strong need for cleanliness may find it difficult to accept, be mentally prepared.
4⃣Attractions: Many attractions require tickets, but not necessarily for visiting various lakes on small paths; Everest Base Camp can stay at the foot of the mountain in a village at an altitude of 4200, which is more comfortable than tents on the mountain.
5⃣Other:
-The climate is very dry, prepare water, lip balm, and sunglasses for full-body physical sun protection.
-Traveling by car for 4-8 hours a day, prepare snacks and get enough sleep.
-Without Ali, there is no Tibet, although it is hard, it is very worthwhile. Pay attention to safety when self-driving, some dirt roads are not easy to travel, but overall the roads are very good. I wish everyone a happy time in Tibet! So far, it is my favorite scenic spot in China!!
StyleSavant
A person bravely explores Tibet: An eight-day real expense share
Tibet is really not a place to just go on a whim 🤬 Without preparation, you will definitely encounter pitfalls!!!
Tibet is suitable for travel all year round, but during the peak summer season, it's overcrowded and you have to queue up for attractions. It's recommended that sisters with time can set out in May-June 🌟 to avoid the peak season and have a full experience.
·
⚠ About altitude sickness
Many friends worry about getting altitude sickness when entering Tibet. For first-timers to high altitudes, it's common to experience some degree of altitude sickness, which usually gets better after a few days. However, some may suffer more severely and should seek timely hospital treatment for oxygen and IV fluids. You won't know if you'll get altitude sickness until you're there, but don't worry too much. Take precautions and pay attention to the following points 👇👇👇, personally tested! They are very helpful in alleviating altitude sickness~
.
⚠ Preventing altitude sickness
👇 Taking Rhodiola one week in advance can improve the body's tolerance to hypoxia.
👇 Definitely do not bathe or wash your hair in the first two days after arriving in Lhasa to avoid catching a cold which can worsen altitude sickness.
👇 Upon arrival at the plateau, avoid high-intensity, frequent exercise; walk slowly and rest often.
👇 Traveling in Tibet involves long car journeys, and high altitudes can deplete energy faster. Hunger can worsen altitude sickness, so always carry high-calorie snacks like chocolate/glucose to replenish energy in time.
👇 Be sure to keep warm, especially your head. Hats are essential as many attractions are quite windy.
👇 It's advisable to carry a thermos; drinking hot water in cold weather is really comfortable and also helps alleviate altitude sickness.
.
⚠ Other Tips
☑ There are really many winding mountain roads in Tibet, especially the 108 turns near Mount Everest, which can easily cause motion sickness. Remember to prepare motion sickness medicine or patches.
☑ The ultraviolet rays in Tibet are very strong, so daily sun protection is necessary. Sunglasses and sun hats are indispensable.
☑ The air in Tibet is really dry, so it's important to stay hydrated and moisturized. Carry a lip balm; the inside of your nose can also get very dry and painful, so consider bringing nasal spray or erythromycin ointment.
☑ The Lhasa city area is not large, and you can travel freely.
Lhasa must-visits: Potala Palace, Barkhor Street, Jokhang Temple, Medicine King Mountain, Tibet Museum, Tashilhunpo Monastery, Sera Monastery, Nanshan Park. Other attractions in Tibet are far away, and since there are no direct buses to the attractions, it's recommended to join a local non-shopping tour group, which is very convenient and saves trouble! You can refer to the following itinerary~ The scenery is beautiful, and the experience is also very good.

Four days from Lhasa to Everest Base Camp
DAY 1:
We set off from Lhasa, passing through the Karola Glacier, Manla Reservoir, and Tashilhunpo Monastery before settling down in Shigatse city.
The Tashilhunpo Monastery is really beautiful, with every detail inside being so intricate and the design so strong, the whole temple is very comfortable. I was also fortunate to enter the Grand Hall to watch the monks debate and take classes, which was a very lucky experience.
DAY 2:
Today, on the way to the Everest Base Camp, I had a barley popsicle and encountered the Tibetan people's barter day, which was such a surprise! It was very lively, all Tibetans, no extra tourists, it was really great! I bought some Tibetan incense bags and South Red Agate, both are good!
At the foot of Everest, I had a hot latte. Then at Everest Base Camp, we entered a tent and had a luxurious version of instant noodles in a very atmospheric setting.
I also fulfilled my 10-year dream of Everest, seeing the true face of Everest! 10 years later, Everest Base Camp has become a happy base camp, no longer having the solemn and sacred feeling it used to have!
DAY 3:
🏔 Another painful night spent at Everest Base Camp, this time I knew how to protect myself. But still woke up in the middle of the night with a headache, tried inhaling oxygen, but I don't think it helped much. Overall, this time was better than the one 10 years ago.
🥤For the sake of the word 'Everest' on a cup sleeve, we bought milk tea and coffee. I had a white peach barley tea, which actually tasted quite good. After having delicious milk tea, I didn't feel carsick anymore.
🚘 In the morning, we drove from Everest to Lhasa, the scenery along the way was unparalleled.
🍲 We arrived back in Lhasa at almost 11 pm and went to eat Tan's fish head. It was really delicious and spicy, and I had a great time with Marco and his family.
🛌 We stayed in the work and rest room of the inn for the night, just making do.
DAY 4:
☕️ Today I finally had time to find a Tibetan tea house and had a pot of sweet tea for 6 yuan in this unfamiliar afternoon. The diners in the tea house changed batch after batch, and I sat for a very long time. I really like this kind of tea house that only locals visit.
👣 I walked around Jokhang Temple Square and bought some small prayer wheels to take back as souvenirs.
🥢 In the evening, I had sauerkraut chicken, which tasted very good, much better than the stone pot chicken we had in Lulang. I also tried barley wine, and the time spent with Xiao Ma was very happy.
