Naples is easily one of my favourite cities in Italy. Perhaps the rain contributed to the romantic experience, but the atmosphere in this city is incredible. Old meets new down every street and you can sweeten the mood with buttery pastry and strong espresso; or indulge in cheesy Napoli pizza 🍕 Few cities in Italy have been as fraught with turbulence as Naples. If you’ve ever read Elena Ferrante’s My Brilliant Friend series, you’ll know that the history of the city is complicated. In spite of everything it has been through, Naples has regenerated into a thriving center, only growing stronger from its stormy past. Naples, however, has only grown stronger from these setbacks. Today, tourists from all over the world come to the city to behold its unique landmarks. When I visited, there was a couple proposing, and the eyes of the people watching were filled with love. It felt like an even more wonderful place because you could see Mount Vesuvius. 🇮🇹Two-day tour guide to Naples and Pompeii |||1️⃣ Take the Flixbus overnight train from Milan and arrive in Naples at 9 a.m. the next day. 2️⃣ After getting off the bus, go to the hotel to drop off your luggage. 📍Smart Hotel Napoli is located at the port of Naples, which is very safe because there are people checking when entering the port. 3️⃣ Newcastle is right in front of the hotel, you can see it at a glance. #italytrip Sorrento, Italy, is like stepping into a sun-soaked postcard! 🌞 This charming town on the Amalfi Coast captured my heart from the moment I arrived. The views over the Bay of Naples, with Mount Vesuvius in the background, are absolutely stunning. I spent my first day just wandering the narrow, cobbled streets lined with lemon trees, which fill the air with a sweet, zesty fragrance. 🍋 The Piazza Tasso, Sorrento’s main square, was lively and full of energy, with plenty of cafes where I enjoyed a perfect espresso while people-watching. ☕ One of my favorite experiences was visiting the Cloister of San Francesco. Entry is free, and the peaceful atmosphere and beautiful architecture, with its ivy-covered arches, made it the perfect place to take a break from the sun. 🌿 The nearby Villa Comunale offers panoramic views that are perfect for snapping photos or just taking in the sunset. 🌅 I also took a boat trip to Capri from the Marina Piccola; it's only a short ride away and a must-do for anyone visiting Sorrento. The food was another highlight! I couldn't get enough of the fresh seafood and homemade gnocchi alla Sorrentina. 🍝 Of course, no visit to Sorrento is complete without trying Limoncello, made from locally grown lemons. Mount Vesuvius is probably the most famous volcano in the world. School children across the world have read about it in their history textbooks for generations – the volcano that destroyed Pompeii! Usually Vesuvius is discussed in the context of the eruption in 79 AD – a story of history and a natural disaster of the Ancient World. Rarely do we mention that Mount Vesuvius is still active and one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. Since Pompeii was destroyed by Vesuvius, there have been dozens more eruptions. We don’t know the exact number because the historical records of ancient time are incomplete, but the best estimate is about 40 times in the past 2000 years. In fact, Mount Vesuvius is the only volcano to have erupted in Europe in the past century. In its most dramatic volcanic event of the 20th century, lava flowed over the rim and huge clouds billowed into the air – all of it clearly visible from Naples.
