#gohiking starts from kurama station, hike starts from the bottom entrance of the temple up to the temple, where you can pray and knock on the hanging metal bell. it was considered an easy trail by the locals. the hike is about 400m upwards, took about half hour as the slopes are no joke. there were many tourist visiting this place/temple along the mountain. expect a lot of stairs and upslope towards the temple. bring water, stay safe! we saw deers on the mountain near the temple as well. how cute!

It was established during the Heian period but was later relocated due to frequent earthquakes in Kyoto, which caused unrest among the people. Kifune Shrine is renowned as one of the most beautiful shrines in Japan, and its stunning winter scenery covered in pure white snow is particularly breathtaking. Kurama Temple, with a history of over 1000 years, hosts one of Kyoto's 'three great unusual festivals'—the Kurama Fire Festival—in October each year. Within Kurama Temple, there are monuments inscribed with poems by the famous Japanese poets Tekkan Yosano and Akiko Yosano. Passing through the majestic Niomon Gate and along the winding mountain path of about 1 kilometer to the main hall, visitors can enjoy the beautiful natural scenery surrounding Kurama Temple. The dreamlike crimson Yaezakura cherry blossoms in spring and the panoramic view of the mountainside ablaze with red leaves in autumn are considered the temple's most spectacular sights.

Kibune and Kurama are just one stop away from the station. This time I chose to climb Mt. Kurama directly to Kurama Station after eating Kibune Ryushu. (If you are not physically fit, I suggest you climb from Mt. Kurama to Kibune first, which will reduce the uphill climb!) You can use hiking poles for free when entering the mountain. Remember to take them. It will be much easier. Once you arrive at Kurama Station, be sure to take a picture of the Tengu statue! Kurama is known as the hometown of Tengu. By the way, our original plan was to go to Kurama Onsen to soak in the hot springs after climbing the mountain, but the shop owner told me that Kurama Onsen has been closed, which is a pity.
