#Monument to the Discoveries Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Portugal 🇵🇹❤️
Originators of my favorite: 蛋挞.
There’s so much to see in #lisbon otherwise known as Lisboa. From the architect, history, sports, food and coastline beauty- it’s definitely worth the visit. Famous on port wine and seafood, I didn’t know anything about the country besides Cristiano Ronaldo being from there. I was most surprised how diverse the country is. I met so many people from Brazil, Angola and Cape Verde. I’m excited to go back and explore even more outside the city. #touristsattraction #portugal

🇵🇹 Monument to the Discoveries in Belem
Monument to the Discoveries stands on the northern bank of the Tagus river estuary in Belém, Lisbon. Originally built as a temporary statue in 1940 for the Portuguese World Exhibition, the monument was rebuilt in 1960 to commemorate the 500 years death anniversary of Prince Henry the Navigator. The statues of Henry the Navigator and 32 other figures from the history of the Discoveries are erected outside the monument.
The monument is definitely worth a visit if you are interested in the history and changing landscape in Lisbon. An adult entrance ticket costs €10.00 which includes access to the viewpoint and museum. To access the viewpoint we had to take the lift to the top floor and from there climb a few flights of stairs to reach the observation deck. The observation deck offers spectacular views over the Tagus estuary and skyline of Lisbon. The museum at the basement houses exhibition to showcase how the landscape in Lisbon changed over the years.

This statue was built in 1940 and made permanent in 1960 to mark 500 years since Henry the Navigator’s death. It’s a great opportunity to have a few good photos before heading to Jeronimos Monastery.
The Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Monument of Discoveries) stands tall along the Tagus River, honoring Portugal's rich exploration heritage. This iconic monument pays homage to the brave explorers who ventured into unknown territories, opening new horizons and forging connections with distant lands. 🚢🌍✨

It is not the egg tart that many people in Portugal think of first, but the origin of the great maritime era. Therefore, the Great Nautical Monument is a symbol of Portugal. The monument was built on the square in the seaside, and part of the head has been extended. The monument was built to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of the voyager Prince Henry. The monument is engraved with statues of Henry and 80 other sailors. It is said that there is a map of the world on the ground in front of the monument, which is engraved with the date of discovering the New World. I have not seen it and may have missed it. While admiring the old maritime empire, and the glory of the past.
