Monkey Mountain is one of the well-known attractions in Phang Nga Province and is generally included in many day trips, just like its name. It's a place to see monkeys. If you go, remember to avoid taking things from the bag and wearing red clothes to avoid being attacked by monkeys.
Address:
To Chae Road, Phuket Town, Phuket, Thailand
Recommended sightseeing time:
2-3 hours
Khao To Sae, Phuket
A big mountain in the middle of the city, a beautiful viewpoint, an exercise route along the road up the mountain. There are many monkeys along the way. If you follow the rules written at the entrance, you can travel peacefully. Along the way up, there are balconies, viewpoints, and exercise areas at intervals. On the top of the mountain is a communication station, satellite dish, and TV signal pole. In front of the Khao To Sae Hiking Club, there is a hiking route, rappelling along the rope, and winding along the cliff. It is not difficult. Prepare your spirits and enjoy the journey.

Monkey Hill - Phuket
Monkey Hill is known as Toh Sae Hill, it is the highest hill in Phuket town.
There are about 400 macaques living on the hill and they live in little groups all over the hill.
There are very different feedbacks about this place. Some people have got bad experience with monkeys biting them, but as for me it was a great experience watching these funny animals. They are pretty kind to you as long as you are nice to them! If you don’t want to get bitten NEVER touch/reach out to them! Let them come to you! Also treat them well, don’t shout, don’t tease the monkeys, don’t try to do anything bad to them and you will have a positive experience on the Monkey Hill.
That hill is literally the monkeys home, and for us as tourists/guests we need to respect them and their home. I love these animals!!!

Monkey Hill Viewpoint
#songkran2024Nice experience to see the monkeys in their NATURAL habitat. Even though the GPS shows that you can go all the way to ViewPoint in a car, it is not possible any longer. The road is closed at the bottom of the hill (by the Charoen Samanakij Temple intersection). However, they have scooter rentals in that intersection, which works with the GCOO app. Make sure you download the app if you intend to rent it. Walking to the top is not too bad. There are lots of shade and places to sit and take breaks. There are also bathrooms halfway there, not too clean, but they are there. You do not need to go all the way to ViewPoint to see monkeys, but if you want to see the view, go ahead.
WHEN YOU SEE THE MONKEYS: Do NOT panic, keep on walking with your hands open (not a fist), so they know you don't have any food in your hands. Secure everything in your bags. If you have a drink, they will come for it, do NOT fight it. Just let them have it. Do not try to punch or kick them. If they come to you, it is because you have something they think it is food, and they want it. Just keep walking, and they will go away.

Wishing tree leaves
#songkran2024
At the Phuket hill, you can find a wishing tree. You can pay to purchase some golden leaves to write down your wishes. It is a very good way to express your wishes and hopefully they will come true. You can even come back the next time when you visit Phuket hill again..Who knows you might even find back the golden leaves that you have written in the previous trip to the Phuket hill. This is definitely a very interesting activity for everyone to engage in. You would definitely be surprised if you are able to locate your leaves in the future.

Monkey Hill Marvels: Views and Playful
#songkran2024
Visiting Monkey Hill Viewpoint was an exhilarating adventure that provided breathtaking views and unforgettable encounters. As I ascended the winding road to the summit, the anticipation of what awaited me grew with each twist and turn.
Upon reaching the viewpoint, I was rewarded with panoramic vistas of Phuket Town sprawling below and the sparkling Andaman Sea stretching to the horizon. It was a picture-perfect moment, made even more special by the gentle breeze and the warm sun on my skin.
But the real highlight of the experience was the playful troop of monkeys that called Monkey Hill home. With their mischievous antics and curious nature, they provided endless entertainment as they scampered among the trees and interacted with visitors.
As I watched the monkeys frolic in their natural habitat, I couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder and connection to the natural world. It was a reminder of the beauty and diversity of life on our planet, and the importance of preserving and protecting it for future generations.
Leaving Monkey Hill Viewpoint, I carried with me not only memories of stunning scenery but also a newfound appreciation for the simple joys of nature. It was an experience that left a lasting impression, reminding me of the magic that can be found in the most unexpected places.

Monkey Hill Viewpoint
#songkran2024 This is a spectacular and special way to see monkeys. And you will see monkeys, lots and lots of them.
In case you’re not enthusiastic about walking to the top of the hill, just know that you will not have to walk far to see monkeys. I walked to the top where the view of the city is nice, but if you’re there just to see monkeys it is not necessary.
The locals advised me (belatedly) not to go alone. Know what to do in case the monkeys get pushy and aggressive which they will definitely do if they think you have food: do not smile (they think you’re baring your teeth), do not make direct eye contact, hold your palms up and out up so they can see you have nothing and slowly back away.
If you make the mistake of shouting and using threatening gestures, it will be you against a pack of monkeys. You will lose the battle. I know this unfortunately from experience. A local man with a slingshot had to came to my rescue.
My recommendation is to not bring or buy monkey food. They tend to ignore you if you do not have food (but not always). There will still be many playful monkeys to watch and photograph.
They are wild creatures. They are unpredictable. Please remember that. Any move you make for your backpack will attract motivated monkeys who think you have food for them and they will jump, claw, unzip, and bite to get that food.
It is not advised to carry a bag in your hands because monkeys will grab it from you, no matter what is in it.
If you do take food, make sure you do not have to spend too much time getting it out of your backpack or unwrapping it. The monkeys will not wait and it will be a frightening experience when they rush at you aggressively. Keep your children close to you.
Be careful getting too close to the mother monkeys with babies. There might be an aggressive male watching.
Keep these critical things in mind for your safety and enjoy this truly magical walk.
There are dogs, like others have mentioned in their reviews. I found them to be docile and uninterested in people.

Absolutely
Absolutely a great experience with animals, we arrived to a small parking spot and started walking up the road where all the monkeys were. At the beginning we were a bit afraid of the monkeys but once we realized they were very used to tourist and kindly just took the peanuts that we brought for them, we really started enjoying and taking pictures.
It was a great experience and we highly recommend it.
