The beautiful small church that is dedicated to Panagia Pantanassa is one of the oldest church in the city with a three-aisled basilica, the stone exterior and the domed slate roof. The square is home to clothing boutiques, souvenir shops and specialty stores, and is a major tourist attraction in Athens for bargain shopping. Standing in the middle of the square, you can see a blend of historical eras, architecture and cultures, many roads leading to different directions. Street artists are playing music, local vendors selling their products, visitors sitting at the numerous restaurants in the square tasting the Greek Cuisine.

First day of road trip in Europe we arrived at Athens, visited many years ago, this time with my kids. Revisited Acropolis but did not buy the entry ticket (20 eur each). But it’s still worthwhile to see the full view of the beautiful ancient citadel from far. Take a walk at the nearby old town Monastiraki square where u can find food, souvenirs, art stuff, clothes, and gelato 🍧! Ps: if u r driving it is very challenging as the roads are narrow and also very difficult to find a parking spot

#traveldiaries #greece Monastiraki square is centeally located in Monastiraki district and it is bustling in both morning and night! There are plenty to see, experience and shop over there. The Panagia Pantanassa and Tzisdarakis churches can be found here. Every sunday, there is also a flea market organised here and a variety of items can be bought at a cheap price. I got most of my souvenirs over here as they are pretty and reasonably priced. There are many hipster cafes for dine in and I am sure if you look around, you can buy something that you like.

#freehotelstay We have booked a hotel called Plaka Hotel, located in Monastiraki, Athens. Tips: To get a room with a view of the Acropolis, please make a request in the room provided. An example of the request I wrote is "Higher floor with nice acropolis view." If it's available, you will get the requested room✌️ The hotel is located in a shoplot. Apart from online payment, I also have to pay the city tax at the hotel of €1.50 in cash (you can also use a card). Since we arrived a bit earlier (12 pm) than the check-in time (3pm), our room was not ready yet. The hotel staff are friendly, very helpful and can speak English. He recommended that we leave the bags in their storage room and come back in 1 hour to get the key card. So, we decided to eat and walk around the Monastiraki area. We found a halal food restaurant in the Menandrou area "Giru Restaurant". We ordered food and drinks for a total price of €10. Tips: Please order freshly squeezed orange juice. It's worth it👍 After eating, we went back to the hotel. Alhamdulillah, we got the requested room, with a view of the acropolis from the room window. Although small, complete with electric kettle, coffee, soap, shampoo, towels, and TV. The hotel also has a rooftop bar that allows us to see the acropolis and the surrounding area from above. After resting, showering, and praying, we went out again for a walk. Tips: Look for a hotel in a central area so that everything is within walking distance. In addition to saving in terms of transportation, it can make it easier for us to go back to rest (especially for old people like us🤣) and to pray comfortably. #freehotelstay
