Barcelona’s medieval monastery
For the first time, even for me, though I am from Barcelona, we visited 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼 𝗱𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗯𝗲𝘀⛪️
👉This is an old monastery founded in the 14th century that keeps until this day its ancient charm
A cobblestone covered street leads the way uphill to its entrance, and right upon setting the foot inside you feel part of a scene of 𝘎𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘛𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴 👑
The first sight is the cloister, where interestingly, they grow medicinal plants in the garden to reminisce about the plant-based remedies from the medieval era 🌱☘️
After walking around the cloister find a little door 🚪 at a corner to access the old kitchen where it is quite impressive to witness very old equipment like ovens, stoves, pots and pans that they must have used at the time to prepare food for the nuns in the monastery 🍽
A stairs take you up to the second floor where the view over the central garden is really beautiful
And later on you can choose to take the elevator down to see the medieval garden
There, they grow edibles like tomatoes, carrots, potatoes or onions using ancient methods 🥬🥕🍅
We really enjoyed our visit here and learning a bit more about the history of this place that at the time was a relatively far location from downtown 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗮.
Nowadays it is already engulfed by the city and it is the crown of 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗮’𝘀 upper-class neighborhood of Pedralbes, where you can find the most expensive apartments in the city.
