Don't always say that going to the Arctic is too expensive, come to Mohe in Harbin instead, where you can also see the aurora with a higher cost-performance ratio~ On New Year's Day 2024, take the Snow Country Train and chase the rare aurora.
🌠 The best time to visit Mohe: From November 15th to March 15th of the following year, when the snow is thickest and the scenery is most beautiful, it's perfect for rolling around in the snow.
🚂 Transportation to Mohe:
● First take a plane/high-speed train/train to Harbin.

👔 Dressing strategy: Mohe is an extremely cold area, so keeping warm is very important. Mohe | The northernmost point of China! The only place where you can see the aurora |||🌈 Mohe is the northernmost point of China, located at the northernmost end of Heilongjiang Province, and is the county with the highest latitude in China.
💡There are three ways to travel to Mohe:
Train, plane, and self-driving, I personally recommend the train (cost-effective). Buy tickets to Mohe at Harbin Railway Station, it's quite convenient, sleep for one night and you'll arrive, there is a train K7040 to Mohe from Harbin every day, the whole journey is 18 hours, the beautiful scenery on the road will not disappoint you!
It usually takes three days to visit Mohe, but with the two days of travel time back and forth from Harbin to Mohe, it takes five days.
About accommodation: two nights on the train hard sleeper, one night in the Arctic Village, one night in the North Red Village, all are farmhouse kang.
✅Mohe five-day itinerary:
Day1: Departure place-Harbin-Mohe (stay on the train hard sleeper);
Day2: Mohe-Longjiang First Bay-Ussuri Shallow Beach (160KM, about 3 hours by car)-North Red Village (60KM, about 1.5 hours by car) (Check in);
Day3: North Red Village splashing water into ice-horse pulling plow-Heilongjiang winter fishing-Ewenki reindeer garden-Christmas village-skiing-dumpling making (150KM, about 3 hours by car)-Arctic Village (Check in);
Day4: Arctic Village-Northernmost Post Office-Northernmost Family-Northernmost Post-Nine Bends and Eighteen Bends/Birch Forest-Mohe Dance Hall-Mohe (90KM, about 1.5 hours by car)-Harbin (stay on the train hard sleeper);
Day5: Harbin-Departure place.
✨Can you see the aurora in Mohe?
Many people come to Mohe hoping to see the aurora, but the aurora is unpredictable and depends on luck, even the locals rarely see it.
💞The best season to come to Mohe
There are two seasons each year that are the most suitable, one is June and July, at this time not only there is the annual summer solstice festival, if you are lucky, you can also see the aurora~
The other is December and January, at this time coming to Mohe not only can enjoy the snow, but also ski, watch mink show, experience horse pulling plow, etc., and may also see the aurora. The winter in Mohe can last up to 8 months (January-May, October-December).

Previously, I took a train from Hailar to Mangui and unexpectedly found out that there is a bus from Mangui Station to Mohe, so I immediately changed my itinerary to visit this northernmost small town in China.

About Mohe
Many people know this small town through the song 'Mohe Ballroom.'
It is the northernmost city in China. While some places are still immersed in the 'high-temperature steaming' mode, here people are already wearing cotton-padded jackets.

Mohe County Town
I think the county town is more worth visiting than Beiji Village.
Mohe County Town has many European-style buildings, and walking on the streets feels like being in a European town.
The food in the county town is also great. After leaving the Mohe Ballroom, I randomly found a small restaurant, and the food was incredibly delicious.
Places you must visit in the county town: Songyuan and the Daxing'anling Fire Memorial Hall.
The Daxing'anling 5.6 fire is a pain for everyone.

Beiji Village
Tickets: 68; Sightseeing car: 30 yuan
The sightseeing car is divided into the south line and the north line.
To be honest, it is still relatively commercialized at the moment. The fun part is finding various 'northernmost' spots here.

Beihong Village
A village even further north than Beiji Village. Friends who like a more primitive style can come here.
Currently, there is no public transportation to reach it, but you can drive yourself or ask a chartered car driver.

About Accommodation
I stayed near the county bus station, where there are daily buses to and from Beiji Village, which is quite convenient.

You can ask the innkeeper for specific details after arriving in Mohe.

This year, due to geomagnetic storms, many people have captured the long-lost aurora in Mohe, but this really depends on luck.

About Transportation
Transportation in Mohe is very convenient, with an airport and a train station. There are multiple flights to Harbin every day.
For those not in a hurry, you can also take a train to leave. Mohe to Harbin takes about 18 hours. The summer version of the Snow Country Train has a different kind of beauty.

Here is my three-day itinerary in Mohe:

⛳️Beihong Village
Beihong Village is the real northernmost village in China, even more north than the Arctic Village! Take a stroll in the quiet snow village, it's beautiful📸 and photogenic~ In Mohe, you can not only see the village where the aurora appears, but also set off fireworks in the middle of the night🎇~ Sleep beautifully on a traditional northeastern kang, get up early the next day to experience throwing water into ice, then lie on a horse-drawn plough covered with a big floral quilt to tour the village. This is the joy unique to the Northeast~
⛳️Christmas Village (Ski Resort)
There really is a Santa Claus from Northern Europe in the Christmas Village! You can take a photo with him~ You can also experience many ice projects: ice bowling, ice biking, etc.~
There is also a ski resort in the Christmas Village. It's not big, but it's enough for me who is skiing for the first time⛷️. I couldn't control my legs at all when I first stood on the ski slope! I don't know how many times I fell, but with the coach's guidance, I slowly found the skills of skiing. The first time I slid all the way down, I really felt a sense of accomplishment!
⛳️Ewenki Reindeer Park
The reindeer and alpacas are very cute, you can buy some corn kernels and carrot sticks to feed them~
📍Although the temperature in Mohe is very low, it is different from the dry cold feeling in the south. Mainly do a good job of windproof, wear more warm clothes, do not expose the skin will not feel cold~
