The cherry blossoms at Mikkō-in Temple in Kawaguchi, Saitama Prefecture, are a variety called Daikanzakura, which was created by crossbreeding a Taiwanese variety with a Japanese variety. Because they bloom earlier than regular cherry blossoms, I was a little hesitant before visiting, but luckily I was able to visit when they were in full bloom. Some of the cherry blossoms have already started to fall, and the ground is covered with cherry blossom petals. The temple is located in a residential area, next to a school and a park. There are few visitors, and the atmosphere is very quiet and calm. I walked around Tokyo these few days and found that the cherry blossoms in the city have not yet bloomed, which made me a little disappointed. However, I heard that the cherry blossoms in the suburbs were in full bloom, so I set off immediately. Starting from Shinjuku, I took the subway and bus for nearly an hour and a half and finally arrived at Mizoin. As soon as I got there, I was stunned by the beautiful scenery! The cherry blossoms are in full bloom, and the tender pink flowers are so beautiful under the sunlight that they seem unreal. What’s more, there aren’t many people here, unlike in the city where it’s packed with people. You can enjoy the cherry blossoms, take photos and check in to your heart’s content. What makes me even happier is that the red seals and amulets here are all cherry blossom-themed and are super beautifully designed. It’s a pity that I didn’t have enough cash on me, so I couldn’t take them home, which is really a bit regrettable. Overall, this suburban cherry blossom viewing trip was very successful. I saw the beautiful cherry blossoms and enjoyed a rare quiet time. Mitsuzo-in Temple in Kawaguchi, Saitama Prefecture 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃 The date of its founding is unknown, but it is said to have been rebuilt in 1469. It was founded by Eikai Hoin and is said to be a branch temple of Mumuraiju-in Temple, a subtemple of Daigo-ji Temple in Kyoto City. The principal image is Jizo Bodhisattva. It is said to have been the Buddha that Taira no Masakado always carried close to him. When you think of Mitsuzo-in Temple, you think of the Angyo Sakura. Also known as Okita Sakura. It was bred by Okita Yuji. It was planted on the approach to the temple at the request of the previous chief priest. It blooms earlier than Somei-Yoshino, has a slightly darker pink color, and is slightly smaller in size. The soft cherry blossoms decorate the temple grounds, creating a truly beautiful sight.
