Hiking the Holyford Track into Milford Sound
3 days and over 50000 steps was all it took to experience one of the most spectacular views I have seen.
Nestled in the south-west corner of New Zealand's South Island is a not-so hidden gem. We have visited Milford Sound before by car (the homer tunnel is an amazing example of engineering and worth a visit as well) but for this trip in 2015 we decided to hike in to the sound. Led by the wonderfull team at Holyford Wilderness Experience this was a trip like no other. We were well taken care of with the meals provided as outstanding as the scenery we took in. The lodges were comfortable and it was nice to have hot running water for showers. This trip started my love of hiking but i must admit it was certainly more luxurious than any other hike I've completed since.

Milford Sound
Getting There - You can either choose to follow a tour group or self-drive. Self-drive from Queenstown will be approximate 4-5 hours. Roads to Milford Sound are steep with numerous turns. Can do a stopover at Te Anau to get a quick bite and petrol. The Ranch bar and grill will be a good choice where there are a variety of food choices.
Attractions - Amazing views of waterfalls and mountains. Good experience despite the long ride. Do check the timing of the cruise tour as number of tours depends on the season.
Hotels - There are Lounge near Milford Sound for those who will like to spend the night there.

Milford Sound in New Zealand, a fjord landscape that is unique and not found in our country
Milford Sound in New Zealand is particularly suited for visits on rainy days, where you can board a tall sightseeing ship that sails through the emerald sea, flanked by towering and majestic mountains. During periods of heavy rain, countless waterfalls pour down from great heights, creating a spectacular scene that is unparalleled in our country, akin to placing the Three Gorges beside the sea.
These lofty mountains make the cruise ships appear like tiny toys, an overwhelmingly impressive sight, and there are even seals on the giant rocks by the sea.
Recommended for group tours or self-driving.

Milford Sound National Park, known as the 'Eighth Wonder of the World'
Recommended for South Island, New Zealand🇳🇿 tourism
What are some beautiful natural sights to see around Queenstown?🎉🎉🎉
That would definitely be Milford Sound, often referred to as the 'Eighth Wonder of the World'.
🚩Located on the west coast of New Zealand's South Island
It is also a very famous national park in New Zealand, well-known for its excellent ecological conservation👍
🏔️Towering peaks and majestic waterfalls are within close reach
On a sunny or rainy day, you can see the spectacular Stirling Falls and Bowen Falls
Along the way, you can also witness unique geological formations, although the drive is indeed quite long, departing from Queenstown (07:30-19:30, including 1 hour of boat tour), the scenery is truly beautiful
……………………
📢Highly recommend everyone to take a fixed-wing plane✈️, this way it only takes half a day (4 hours to return to Queenstown)

The beautiful Milford Sound
🚌 On the way from Queenstown to Milford Sound, the bus will stop for photo opportunities whenever encountering beautiful scenery. The landscapes along the way are already so stunning, and the destination—Milford Sound itself is even more breathtaking! The fjord's water surface intersects vertically with the cliffs, and the glaciers have been carved into a V-shaped cross-section. The sinking of the valley has formed the landscape we see today, truly deserving of its reputation as the 'eighth wonder of the world'.

Milford Sound in New Zealand
Milford Sound is the largest and most famous fjord in New Zealand's Fiordland National Park. The sea extends 22 kilometers inland, where the fjord's surface intersects vertically with the cliffs, cut into a V-shaped cross-section by ancient glaciers. After the canyon sank, the current landscape was formed. Almost all the mountain streams have large and small waterfalls. On the cliffs, the waterfalls ding or roar, forming a beautiful natural symphony. The most famous waterfall is the Sutherland Falls, located on Milford Sound, with a total drop of 580 meters, ranking among the world's top. Boating in this fjord, you will see mountains surrounding, cliffs towering, waterfalls flowing, glaciers glistening, giving people an infinite sense of beauty. The 14 fjords on the west coast are 44 kilometers long in total, with the deepest being 500 meters. The fjords on the south coast are longer, with wider estuaries, and there are many small islands in between, with beautiful scenery, which can't help but marvel at the wonders of nature! No wonder British writer Kipling called it the 'eighth wonder of the world'.

New Zealand's Most Stunning Attraction
Milford sound is situated in the southwest part of new Zealand where locals call it Piopiotahi. From queenstown, we did almost a 4 hour ride to milford sound thru the mountainous region during spring. Do check the roads during winter, as I am not too sure if it would be close due to the icy slippery roads.
There are several things to do a milford sound where you could take a day tour which normally includes one of the cruises around the waters or you could just even do the milford hikes where you could do either a day hike where it takes you from 30mins to 3-4hours on a well paved track, or do one of the 4 days track along the milford track route which with accommodation. Do remember to book your walk before you go as I do remember there are limited number of slots per day allowed on the route.

The Milford Highway is the gateway to the Milford Sound from Te Anau and is known as the "world's most beautiful" alpine road by Lonely Planet.
The picturesque scenery along the way, both New Zealand's largest natural grassland, imagined in the oily grass covered with golden luster, overlooking the Eglington Valley, dreams like a fairyland.
The best viewing mirror lake with the reflection of the snow-capped mountains, the reflection of the lake and the real scene constitute two parallel worlds, which are really unclear.
Also worth mentioning is the world's only granite tunnel Homer Tunnel, where the traffic lights are the highest in New Zealand, and parking is also an honor.
If you are lucky enough, you can see the endangered scorpion parrot. It is the only alpine parrot in the world. It often chases people to ask for food, but once it develops the habit of being fed by tourists, it will lose its predation. Ability is not easy to survive in the wild, so it is recommended not to feed.

Real journeys New Zealand reservation preferred
wake up from the hotel in the morning, DIY Chinese food has started a new day, more and more discover the charm of tomatoes and potatoes, the price of vegetables found in the supermarket is more expensive than vegetables And the expensive ones are not a little bit. The vegetables here are all brought in outside, and the meat can be domesticated. The sheep here are really rich. I saw a group of small partners on the road. It is also not afraid of cold, very cute, very cute, and want to squeeze it.
2 pm, we drove to the downtown area of Queenstown and came to the real journeys of the lake. This is also the largest travel company in Queenstown, with all the travel incentives, and the price is particularly transparent. Enjoy a different experience at a price.
New South Island's largest attraction group - "Real Journey" offers a wealth of tourism in destinations such as Queenstown, the National Fiordland Park area and Stewart Island: Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound, TSS Centennial Steam Boats, Walt Farms, Stewart Island, Te Anau Firefly Caves, etc. This is also the official passage for all of New Zealand's extreme projects, which we also booked above.

Steven..
New Zealand has two major fjords: Mildford Sound, Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound. Both can see dolphins, penguins, sea lions and other wild animals, but the Fantasy Fjord is 10 times larger than the Milford Sound and the price is slightly more expensive. The Milford Sound is directly accessible by land. The Doubtful Sound must be reached by a cruise on a cruise ship. There are only RealJourneys in the Doubtful Sound, so the number of visitors is limited to 450 per day. The other two fjords have overnight cruises and many hiking trails. The nearby TeAnau Te Anau is a lakeside town that is a base camp for hiking or trips to Milford Sound.
RealJourneys and SouthernDiscoveries are the two best cruise companies in Milford Sound

The road to and from the Mildford Fjord is known as one of the world's best scenic highland roads, with spectacular scenery and the best of the world's geography classrooms. There are many ways to watch, you can walk, sea, boat, boat to enjoy the scenery of the Fiordland National Park, or take a flight from the air to enjoy the scenery. The whole page of Lonely Planet introduces this road. Ranches, mirror lakes, forests, peaks, canyons, waterfalls, and tunnels are all available. There are also different trails and different trails. This road alone. It is worth going to go to Milford Sound, this is my longing for life.
Open the foggy valley and see it sunny. It seems that God is very helpful. It is an excellent chance to win the early peak travel team, thanks to the homework before the trip. The Fiordland Cruise Terminal is also a beautiful landscape.
Milford Sounds National Park, a wonder of nature. The most eye-catching sight here is the deep gorge created by the glacial movement and cutting two million years ago. The peaks on both sides rise vertically. The boat sailed quietly, and the snow-capped waterfalls on both sides vented, the park's most symbolic landscape. The waterfall is extraordinary and the water comes from the valley glaciers. Despite the summer season, you can still fully feel the cold feeling brought by the snow mist. The valley waterfalls are everywhere, the size and shape are different, and the waterfall in front is like the turbulent water of the creek, and it is another scene. The weather in the fjord valley was very varied, and suddenly there was a torrential rain in the sun. The fjord is fascinating and the scenery is everywhere, and people watch quietly with only the shutter sound of the camera.

"One reason is enough. It is called the eighth wonder of the world." Here is the Milford Sound. When I saw the introduction of Real journeys, I was deeply planted. I used to watch "Lonely Planet" and said that the fjord spans the vast world and is magnificent. The cliffs on both sides of the cliff stand tall and covered with dense forests. After the rain, there will be a booming waterfall flowing down. Therefore, a fjord sentiment was planted in the heart of the old man.
Today's itinerary is relatively hard, mainly because it has to get up early, because driving from Queenstown to the Fiordland Pier, the one-way drive will be nearly four hours. So if you ask me: "The Milford Sound is so far away, is it worthwhile to go?" I will answer you with certainty: "Go, you will be shocked, not going, it is regrettable!"
Especially like the words on the brochure:
Milford Sound luxury Coach & Scenic Cruise day trip
Not every mountain, it is a national park. Not every fjord is a miracle of the world.
Not every road, you can see the essence of the South Island. Not every car is tailored for this road.
Not every ship, worthy of the word "king". Not every journey, it is called a real journey.
If you say that you are not in the Great Wall in China, you will not travel to Milford Sound in New Zealand.
I don't know the glare of the bay, the mountains and the scenery of the heavens and the earth.
misstuanzi.
From the majestic Tsinghua Peak to the Tasman Sea that connects the Pacific Ocean, there are only seven glass-top skylight buses in the world to the Milford Sound, which is known as the world's eighth wonder! My adjective is only too good for my wife!
