Walking all the way from the station, after turning a corner, the torii gate majestically stands on the lake. The torii gate on the water has always been a dreamy existence. It takes about an hour and a half to travel from Osaka to Omi-Takashima. Upon arrival, you can choose to take a taxi, ride a bicycle, or walk (I walked back and forth this time, which took about an hour). The bicycle rental fee is 500 yen per use. When heading from the station to Shirahige Shrine, it is recommended to walk on the right side. There is a sidewalk all the way. If you walk on the left side, there is a section without a sidewalk, which is quite dangerous! Additionally, if you happen to encounter rainy weather, even if it has just cleared up, be sure to prepare a raincoat. The place to take pictures of the torii gate is close to the road, and without a raincoat, you might get splashed all over by passing trucks. 😂 ⭐ When departing from Osaka, be aware that the train will split into two lines after arriving in Kyoto. Make sure you are in the car heading towards Omi-Takashima.

Omi Imazu is not considered a tourist area now, it's not easy to find a restaurant. I found this restaurant located just opposite Omi-Imazu station, with high quality Japanese food. The restaurant is spacious, mainly local visitors and non-smoking. Hotel Kaito is the only hotel at Omi-Imazu station with public bath. The hotel is quite old but clean and tidy. The room is spacious, but with limited amenities. They provide towels and soap. You have to buy the amenities you need at the reception, such as toothbrush, razor etc. Hotel breakfast is nice, traditional Japanese style breakfast. The hotel is near to Biwako Lake, about 10 minutes walking distance. If you are looking for some attractions away from the city, visit Biwako Lake. #tokyo Hase-dera Temple, also known as Hase-kannon Temple, is a Buddhist temple located in the city of Kamakura. The temple is known for its large wooden statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy. We climbed up a set of stairs to a hilltop observation deck for views of the surrounding area. The view was really great. We felt very peaceful to be up there. The garden within the temple compound was also very pretty. #Japan

#gohiking Kibune hike starts at the picturesque town and ends at the kurama temple. if you want a more challenging climb, start from kibune small town. the upslope are steeper and not as well structure stairs, bring walking sticks as that will help. it will take about 2-3h for a 2-3km hike, I will rate is as moderate for beginners as the stairs are really steep for prolonged period. there are railings along the way but you cannot really rely on them all the way as well. saw few walking groups, it is generally safe to hike as the police/community has identify certain spots as k1 k2 k3 in case you need to call for emergency help halfway. bring water and not food in case of bears.

Shirahige Shrine's Torii in the Lake The vermilion torii gate standing in Lake Biwa creates a magical scene at sunrise and sunset. The shrine, with a history of about 2000 years, enshrines Sarutahiko-no-Mikoto and is also known as the 'Itsukushima of Omi.' By the way, wild monkeys appear in this area, so be careful even though they are cute!

#BiwaLake has always been a place I've longed to visit. After taking the JR Lake Tour last year to explore the beauty of Lake Biwa, I decided to take a self-driving tour this year starting from Kyoto. I first crossed the #BiwaLake Bridge (bridge fee ¥150) to the #Sagawa Art Museum. The architectural style is unique, and the water shadows seem to be projected after precise processing. Then we crossed the bridge again and headed towards Takashima. On the way, we arrived at #Shirahige Shrine to see the underwater torii. There is a parking lot at the shrine. After checking in, we headed to our first night’s accommodation, Auberge RUKAWA, which can be considered a luxury B&B that combines traditional Japanese architecture with modern aesthetics. The next morning, we arrived at #メタセコイアNamiki in the north of Takashima City. Although the red leaves have not yet fully bloomed, the scenery is beautiful. There are also different camp sites and hot springs nearby, which is suitable for visiting in the summer. Follow the mountain road, pass Kaizu Osaki, enjoy the scenery along the way, and come to the #つづら尾崎Observatory, where you can see the northern side of Lake Biwa. There is also a store on the observation deck for some supplies. Then after passing #Jianyue, we came to #Jizu Temple to see the red leaves. We went up from #Sekido Temple where there were fewer people. After viewing the red leaves, we headed to our second night’s accommodation, the #Biwako Grand Mercure Hot Spring Hotel in Nagahama City. It includes a buffet breakfast with many varieties and a large public bath, which is very popular among Japanese people. On the third day, we drove up #Ibukiyama. It was the 60th anniversary of the Ibukiyama driveway. After parking the car at the 9th station, we could walk up the mountain road to the top of the mountain, which took about 40 minutes. However, due to the lack of cold-resistant equipment, we did not go up the mountain this time. After the tour, we went to the B&B #大津町家粋世 in Otsu, and also went to #三井outletpark石贺龙王 in Kusatsu for shopping. By the way, the three-day trip to Lake Biwa ended.

Driving around Lake Biwa in terrible weather😂 There are two famous terraces overlooking Lake Biwa. The staff member at the entrance advised me not to go to Lake Biwa Terrace, so I turned around and went to this hill overlooking Lake Biwa. Transportation: Take the JR from Kyoto to Omi-Takashima, then you can choose to walk, take a bus, or ride a bicycle to get there. Comparison: The bus requires waiting, and in a small place, the frequency of buses is sparse. If the timing of your arrival is not convenient, you may have to wait quite a while. It's about a 30-minute walk for 2 kilometers. Cycling takes only 11 minutes. Thoughtfully, the villagers responsible for the station have prepared cycling maps. When visiting Takushima, this is definitely a must go place. There is a boat in which you can take to get close the whirlpool. But do note that there are specific times each day in which the whirlpool is the strongest so plan accordingly. The boat ride takes roughly 30 minutes and you’ll get to see the whirlpool and surrounding area up close. The straight streets and the Metasequoia trees on both sides of the road, whose autumn red leaves are at their best viewing time (photo taken by the author on December 4, 2023), are very spectacular. Metasequoia Avenue is about 2.5 kilometers long. Many people stay at the front end, but there are actually bus stops and coffee shops at both ends of the avenue. After completing the entire journey, I took the bus back from "Minamimakino" in the middle.
