Meriken Park and Harborland, home to Kobe's most photogenic landmarks, are the first areas you should visit when you visit Kobe. 🌃🌙 I went to Meriken Park in the evening, aiming for a time when there weren't many people. But it was still quite crowded with tourists. 🤍🫧 You can take a leisurely stroll along the sea while feeling the sea breeze, take a cruise to see the Kobe cityscape from the sea, and enjoy the sparkling night view at night. You can experience the atmosphere of a port town like Kobe no matter when you come here. "Shinkomachi" on the east side of Meriken Park, where you can find an aquarium and a food hall, is also a popular spot. #HyogoTourism

We stumbled on this area when looking to fine the RWC fan park. One thing I thought I wanted to feel and experience in Japan was a small tremor, however seeing the relics of the destruction here and the exhibits I think I'm glad I didn't. It's quite jaw dropping to see some of the devastation and seeing the area which has been left as a reminder is quite thought provoking. This area would be easy to miss, but is well worth seeking out and having a peaceful reflection for an hour. It is a true site preserved with an exhibit showcasing what happened during the earthquake and the result which impacted the citizens lifestyle. When you arrive in Kobe, you must visit the BE KOBE Monument, which is located in Meriken Park. We also saw the Kobe Tower and a beautiful white church along the way as we walked past the monument. The BE KOBE Monument originated from the 20 years of reconstruction and transformation of Kobe citizens after the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995, reflecting the concept that "the charm of Kobe lies in its people." This slogan symbolizes the pride of Kobe people, their courage to challenge new things, and their love for their hometown. I strolled along the moat, admiring the unique blend of ancient and modern scenery. This place is not just a historical site but also a spot where one can slow down and feel the city's pulse. In the afternoon, I took a train to Meriken Park in Kobe. The park, built by the sea, offers a wide-open view, with the red tower of the port contrasting beautifully against the blue sky, creating a unique harbor ambiance. I leisurely walked along the seaside path, with a gentle breeze brushing by, and watched the distant ships slowly sail past, immersing myself in the tranquil atmosphere. As the sun set, the afterglow painted the harbor with warm colors, marking the most romantic end to the day.

But what impressed me most was the strong revival of Kobe. After nearly three decades, this city has not only recovered but also developed more than ever. The tall buildings, the clean streets, and the bustling harbor… all are testament to the extraordinary efforts of the people here. I walked around Meriken Park, watched the Kobe Port Tower stand out against the blue sky, and felt the peace of this city after the events. This trip not only opened my eyes but also taught me a lesson about perseverance and determination.
