[From Japan to the World] Fukui Sabae Glasses Street Sabae, the City of Glasses
I love watching live music, and this time, when I went to see a live performance at Sandome Fukui, I took a walk along "Glasses Street" that continues from JR Sabae Station.
Glasses, glasses, glasses everywhere!!!
Did you know that 95% of Japanese eyeglass frames are currently made in Fukui City and Sabae City? 💭
This idea was born because the area was buried in snow in winter during the Meiji period.
Masunaga Gozaemon and his brother Kohachi wanted to improve the lives of their hometown, so they started making glasses as a way to earn money during the winter farming off-season.
Then, as movable type became more widespread, the demand for glasses increased, and Japanese glasses are still loved all over Japan and the world today.
There were unique glasses-themed decorations all over the sidewalks, and I felt like I was looking for hidden Mickeys🤤 (lol)
The whole town was well-maintained and very clean, so it was perfect for a walk on a sunny day.
Why not take a stroll around the area?
