The Glasses Bridge spans the Nakajima River that flows through Nagasaki City. It was built in the Edo period and is an ancient Japanese arched stone bridge. The arched bridge is reflected in the water, like a pair of round glasses, hence the name of the Glasses Bridge. The Glasses Bridge is one of the three famous bridges in Japan. It is as famous as the Nihonbashi Bridge in Tokyo and the Kintai Bridge in Yamaguchi. It is the prototype of the Imperial Palace Double Bridge. Dejima During the period of the country's lock-down, after the port of Nagasaki was opened to the public (1570), the city of Nagasaki was formed by means of water transportation. This is the Nakajima River. The glasses bridge erected on Nakajima River is in Tang Dynasty style and was built in 1634 by Moziru, the second abbot of an ancient Japanese temple of the Tang Dynasty. From the construction of the Glasses Bridge until the end of the 17th century, stone bridges were erected on almost all roads that crossed the Nakajima River, and there is a saying that these stone bridges were roads leading to temples in the Teramachi area. There is a well-restored Nakajima River Park on the riverside, and you can take a leisurely walk along the riverside trail. At night, the landscape lights will be lit until 22:00, and the atmosphere is elegant and the lights are gorgeous.
