In January this year, I came to a small but effective ‘Era Buddha Temple’ in Kedah #GoodNewYear2025. Although this temple is small in size, it is full of tranquility and power, and has become a spiritual haven for many people. As soon as you enter the temple, you can feel the majesty and compassion of the Four-Faced Buddha. The four-faced Buddha here is famous for its efficacy, and many believers come here specifically to pray for their wishes to come true. I also worship sincerely and feel inner peace and comfort. In addition to worship, this place also provides "inexpensive fortune-telling services". The fortune-teller is very friendly and not only gives guidance, but also patiently answers questions, making people feel at ease. If this is your first time to worship the Four-Faced Buddha, the people in the temple will carefully teach you how to worship correctly, including preparing offerings, the order of lighting incense, etc., which is very thoughtful. **Tip:** 1. When worshipping the Four-Faced Buddha, remember to worship in a clockwise direction (the front side prays for career, the left side prays for love, the back side prays for health, and the right side prays for wealth). 2. #myhiddengems This National Science Centre is located very near the Paddy Museum about 12 km from Alor Setar. It is an interesting and educational place to visit for both the young and the old. There are many types of interactive displays and activities in various galleries to try, explore and be fascinated with. Entrance fee is low, between RM1 to RM3 only. Senior citizens, children below 7 years old and the handicapped get to enter for free. It is a nice place for a family outing.

#myhiddengems There are many old railway bridges all over Malaysia when the government introduced new infrastructure for electric trains. This Alor Star's old bridge is just like many of the bridges I have visited. If you like river views and old bridges then you would appreciate the charms. Good spot for photography. Easily walkable from city center. Can check train schedule to take video of passing trains.

For those who seek adventure, the Gunung Keriang Recreational Park awaits, adorned with winding trails and emerald foliage, and offering enchanting vistas from its viewing gazebos. As the stars dance above, one can traverse the paths to the summit, gazing upon the fertile rice plains below. While the park is a haven of wonder, the passage of time has dimmed some of its charms. The children's playground, once a place of mirth, now suffers from a lack of care. Though the signposts and maps may no longer be legible, the magic of the park remains undimmed. And, as if by fate, a street market has sprung up next to the park, where one can find wondrous delights in the form of food, clothing, and sundry items. However, it should be noted that the crystals on offer, while enchanting, may have been extracted from the caves without proper care.

You can expect to spend RM20+ per person but the food is delicious 😋. The portion is also big, I was full until lunch time 😂. I love the atmosphere it's like a cute cafe located next to a pond and many greens. It was enjoyable to have good food and good scenery. I recently had the pleasure of visiting Diem Bakery in Alor Setar, and I can confidently say that it is a great place to chill out with friends. The atmosphere in the bakery is inviting and pleasant; the seating area is comfortable and there is a good selection of music playing in the background. The coffee was excellent as well, with the baristas taking the time to craft the perfect cup. The cakes were also fantastic, with a variety of flavors, textures, and sizes to choose from. Personally I’d suggest persevering and eating it. You may find after your initial distaste you learn to like it. 40ish years ago, I told a couple of friends of mine that I had found a great restaurant in town and they served steak tartare! Said friends cheerily went forth to said restaurant and ordered 2 plates of steak tartare. But the arrival of raw chopped beef, topped by a raw egg, and decorated with capers was just a bit too much for them back then. (We were all in our 20s.) They called #food up the waiter and had him fry the stuff for them.
