When driving, you can see the beautiful old stone houses in the village from afar, and through the palm trees and steep canyons you can directly see the Atlantic Ocean in the distance. If you are fit and energetic enough, and have plenty of time, hiking down the incredibly narrow gorge, a visit to the valley can be one of the most unforgettable experiences in Tenerife. Considering that it was only connected to the outside world by road in 1991 and was a three-hour hike from the coast, it’s hard to imagine what originally inspired the village of Masca. However, the fertile valley soil once supported a relatively large community of 600 people.
