Marco Polo Bridge, Beijing
This was my first adventure after/during covid! Luckily I lived near here (the train doesn’t go all the way so it wasn’t as close as I thought or would have liked). Due to covid I didn’t get to go to the park near the bridge and I’m sure there was more I could have done but yelling at me in Chinese doesn’t help me haha. The bridge it’s self was nice though. Every tiger was different and I’m a cat mum so it’s fun looking at the baby tigers biting the bigger tigers. Even the walk from the train to the bridge was pleasant, not a lot of people around as most people were still away for New Years at the time so it was just me and all the New Years decorations! A great example of even when things are working out as plans they can still be good in China. #thisischina

Lugou Bridge and Wanping City are located in the southwest of Beijing.
Lugou Bridge has a history of more than 800 years. It is very strong, with iron pillars running through the stone.
Scientific tests were conducted on the load-bearing capacity of Lugou Bridge, and a 429-ton oversized flatbed truck passed safely and smoothly over the bridge.
My mom brought my sister and me here once, and the last time I came was with my middle school. Back then, you could touch the lions, but now there are fences.
Wanping City is right across from Lugou Bridge. You can stroll around inside, but it's just a residential area. The War of Resistance Museum is closed for renovations, so we didn't go. The city walls still have bullet marks.
The Lugou Bridge area has been a transportation hub and military stronghold in Beijing, and has seen many battles. From the "Battle of the Two Capitals" where Yan Tiemu'er defeated Husi Tai and Mazahan at Lugou Bridge to lift the siege of Dadu, to the Ming general Xu Da sending troops to guard Lugou Bridge against the Yuan remnants; from the "Jingnan Campaign" where Zhu Di and Emperor Jianwen fought, to the "Tumu Crisis" where Yu Qian held firm, Lugou Bridge, as the "throat of the capital," has been repeatedly tested by war.
Lugou Bridge is the lifeline of Beijing. Wars have started here throughout history.

Marco Polo Bridge and Wanping Fortress: An Immortal Legend in the Long River of Time
Stepping onto Marco Polo Bridge is like stepping into a legendary time capsule. The ancient stone bridge is like a poetic painting of the footprints of time. The countless stone lions, each with a different pose, either hold their heads high and chest out, as if telling the heavens about their past glory, or lower their heads, as if immersed in historical contemplation. A gentle breeze blows, and the ripples of the Yongding River seem to whisper the stories buried by time.
The tall walls of Wanping Fortress are a solid fortress built by time, witnessing countless changes. The city gate is simple and solemn, like a mysterious door to the past. Entering the city, the bluestone road twists and turns, leading people through the tunnel of time. The antique buildings are well-arranged, and the eaves and arches seem to still retain the prosperity and hustle and bustle of the past.
Here, the scroll of history unfolds slowly. Marco Polo Bridge is the site of the "July 7th Incident" and a symbol of the unyielding struggle of the Chinese nation. On July 7, 1937, the iron hooves of Japanese imperialism trampled here at will, and the Chinese anti-Japanese army rose up to resist, firing the first shot of the all-out war of resistance. That gunshot, like a flash of lightning, tore through the dark night sky and awakened the sleeping soul of the nation. Since then, Marco Polo Bridge has become an immortal monument, engraved with the bravery and tenacity of the Chinese people.
Wanping Fortress, this ancient military fortress, stands tall in the storm of history. It has witnessed countless wars and gunpowder, and carries the tenacity and unyielding spirit of the Chinese nation. Every brick on the city wall seems to tell the magnificent history; every alley in the city seems to hide countless heroic legends.
Walking on Marco Polo Bridge and Wanping Fortress, feel the heaviness and vicissitudes of history. Every grass and tree here, every brick and tile, exudes the fragrance of time. They are witnesses of history and symbols of national spirit. In this long river of time, listen to the echoes of history, draw strength to move forward, and inherit the great spirit of the Chinese nation.

Lugou Bridge, one of the four famous bridges in China, was built in the Jin Dynasty and is an important traffic artery connecting Beijing and Wanping City. Lugou Bridge is best known for the Lugou Bridge Incident in 1937. As one of the representatives of ancient Chinese architecture, Lugou Bridge has a unique and profound significance in Chinese history. The historical significance, cultural value and spirit of the times of Lugou Bridge are unparalleled and are one of the important symbols of Chinese history and culture.
🌟The stone carved railings, watchtowers and numerous, various, vivid and lifelike stone lions on the bridge are squatting, lying, big and small, or small and big, with a total of 485 heads. The carving is so exquisite that the superb skills and endless creativity of our ancient craftsmen are really amazing.
🌟"Lugou Morning Moon" is one of the eight scenic spots in Yanjing, and it was personally written by Qianlong, which is powerful! At night, if you can stand on the bridge, admire the high moon, feel the heaviness of history and the tranquility of nature intertwined, and listen to the echo of history, it is a wonderful fun.
🌟Wanping City is on the east side of Lugou Bridge. Enter from the west gate and exit from the east gate, which is Shunzhi Gate. It is an ancient city of Ming and Qing style. There are a large number of Ming and Qing buildings in the city, such as county yamen, Chenghuang Temple, Confucian Temple, etc.
🌟Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall: Located in Wanping City, there are a large number of cultural relics and photos from the Anti-Japanese War period, which make people feel the hardship and bravery of the Anti-Japanese War.
The popular tourist spots in Beijing are crowded with people, and the Lugou Bridge has a small number of people and is quiet. It can not only appreciate the beauty of ancient bridge architecture, but also feel the spiritual washing brought by history and humanities.
🌈Attraction Features: Lugou Bridge, the largest ancient stone bridge in North China, was called by Marco Polo as the unique bridge in the world. It is famous for its solid structure, beautiful shape and exquisite stone carvings. It has a high level of bridge engineering technology and art.
