This was my first time entering the Palestinian area, which Israel has made an autonomous region of. I entered the country by passing through the checkpoint on the Jerusalem side of the huge wall known as the Wall of Separation. It was like a completely different world from the Israeli side of Jerusalem. The atmosphere, the smell, even the clothes people wear are completely different. Just a short distance from the checkpoint, there is the Banksy Hotel and Banksy's mural art, so I went to see them. After that, I went to the World Heritage Site, the headquarters of Christ, the Church of the Nativity, where Jesus Christ was born. Bethlehem is a city located in the West Bank of Palestine, 10 kilometers south of Jerusalem. It is the capital of Bethlehem Governorate and the center of local culture and tourism. For Christians, Bethlehem is of special significance as the birthplace of Jesus and the location of the world's first church, the Church of the Nativity. When talking about Bethlehem, we have to mention its country Palestine. Although Bethlehem is administered by the Palestinian Authority, Israel controls the import and export of Bethlehem through its Berlin Wall and checkpoints, treating Palestine inhumanely. Palestinian citizens are like second-class citizens in Israel. The land of Palestine has been an Arab territory for thousands of years. After World War II, the Israelis returned and established the State of Israel with the assistance of the United Nations, occupying more than half of the Arab land, and the other half belonged to Palestine. Israel was founded in 1948 and was quickly recognized by the United Nations and Western countries. However, Palestine was not established until 1988, but has not been recognized to this day and can only operate internationally as an observer country. Even its capital, East Jerusalem, has been annexed by Israel. In sixty years, Palestine's territory has been reduced by more than 80% compared to the territory allocated to it by the United Nations in 1947. To get to Bethlehem, you can only hire a taxi or take a bus. Taking a bus at the Damascus Gate in the old city is the most convenient option. Buses 231 and 234 can also reach Bethlehem, but it is closer to walk to the Church of the Nativity after getting off bus 231, so it is recommended to take it. The No. 231 bus takes about 40 minutes and costs about ILS 7.0 (Palestine does not have its own currency and mainly uses the Israeli new tuk-tuk or US dollar). 🇵🇸-3 Opposite the #Damascus Gate in #Jerusalem, I boarded the No. 231 Arab bus heading for #Bethlehem in #Palestine. Although it is only a short 50-minute drive, it may be a lifetime for the people of both countries. The first stop in Bethlehem is Manger Square, famous for being the birthplace of Jesus. The Church of Nativity located in Manger Square may be one of the oldest existing churches in the world. It was built by Helena, the mother of Constantine the Great. It is currently managed by the Roman Catholic Church, the Greek Orthodox Church, and the Armenian Orthodox Church in accordance with the "maintain the status quo" policy. So the whole feeling of the church is quite different from other churches I have been to, especially in terms of decoration, furnishings, and even the way of praying. Then we went to the Milk Grotto Church, which was built in 1872. The same place was a Byzantine church in the 5th century, so you can still see traces of that time. Here, I met an old man who enthusiastically explained to me the story of this church. According to legend, when Mary was breastfeeding, her milk dripped down and dyed the entire cave white... So he said that many couples would come to this cave to soak the white powder in water and drink it in order to pray for offspring. Later on, it became a cure for all kinds of diseases. The whole of Bethlehem makes me feel that it is a place where you can get a lot, and there are really few tourists at the moment. So when I was looking for information, I found that the birthplace that might have required an hour-long queue to visit was now completely deserted, just as I mentioned before, with 2-30 tourists a day (🙋🏽♂️1/30). On the way back to Jerusalem from Bethlehem, we passed several checkpoints for routine inspections. But in wartime, I feel that the border is full of tension, especially now, I have heard that Israel is about to go to war with Hezbollah in #Lebanon. Although the city is relatively peaceful, there are obviously more people with guns on the road (@ee.yiyi said that this is because of the Hamas attack in 2023, so the number of people applying for gun licenses has increased). We earnestly hope that the two countries can move towards peace in a better direction and coexist peacefully like the Church of the Nativity and the Omar Mosque on Manger Square.

Bethlehem is dotted with satirical art by the world-famous street artist Banksy. These works deal with social themes and leave a strong impression on visitors. Of particular note is the most famous and iconic work depicting a masked boy holding a bouquet of flowers. This work contains a message that finds a symbol of hope even in violence.  There is also a hotel designed by Banksy that is said to have the worst view in the world. The first and second floors of this hotel are free to enter, and Banksy's art is on display inside.  Walking around Bethlehem, you can see these art works up close and experience the unique atmosphere where art and social issues intersect. Mar Saba is a pretty remote monastery in the Judaean Desert. You can walk there along a road that leads you along bedouin dwelling directly to it. If you are orthodox christian the might even let you stay overnight. If not - well you can always try. For hikers there are many steps and stairs hewn in the rock to explore the surroundings. For the real adventurous, try to follow the wadi Nahal Kidron for about 10k into the desert beyond which ends at a small bedouin dwelling. Obviously, don’t attempt this unless you are very fit, have enough water, and are resistant to very hot weather.

Approximately 20 minutes walk to the manger square, the name is called because Jesus was born in a mud trough in the underground cave. The Christmas Church is just around the corner of Manger Square. It is very special that the church has no gates. The entrance is a low stone cave. It is necessary to bend over the cave to enter the church. It is said to let the pilgrims bow down in the birthplace of Jesus. The actual situation was that the Crusaders had sealed the original gate with stones in order to guard against the Arab cavalry. Later, the cave was opened for the convenience of access. The most sacred place in the church is the Christmas Star Cave. Go down the narrow steps on the right side of the altar and you can see a semicircle surrounded by marble with a 14-point silver star inlaid with 15 silver. Light, this is the birthplace of Jesus. Only the original mud trough was upgraded to a silver horse trough, and finally became the current marble material. The Cave Church, not far from the Church of the Nativity, is another holy place. It is said that the Virgin Mary took Jesus to take refuge here. During the breastfeeding process, the milk dripped into the stone, turning the stone into white. From the manger square to the wall about 3 kilometers, I still chose to go. While walking, I dont think how far it is. Under the wall, I met a pair of Palestinian suspected artists who were in the mountains and were very interested in the big Xinjiang pocket in our hands, so they chatted. Do not say anything else, at least in the attitude towards a national commander, our attitude with the Palestinian people is highly consistent. Finally, I had a good time chatting. The little handsome guy also helped us draw a five-star red flag on the wall.

It is a super special scene for Christmas to come to Bethlehem, because according to the Bible, Jesus was born in the stables of Bethlehem, and the birth day of the Lord Jesus Christ was chosen by the descendants as "Christmas." I came to the most sacred place in the world - the birthplace of Jesus! The Christmas Church is not as majestic as a European church, but like a castle. Because of the place where Christ Jesus was born and the manger that was used as a cradle when Jesus was born. Above the altar, there are 15 silver oil lamps that are ignited by Christian sects at different times. At that time, the Roman Emperor Augustus ordered the census of the national population, and Joseph took the upcoming Maria to Bethlehem to declare his account. When they arrived in Bethlehem, the shops in the city were already full of people, and they had to spend the night in a stable. Just this night, Maria gave birth to a baby boy who wrapped her baby in a cloth and placed it in the manger. The manger became the cradle of Jesus Christ.
