Suzhou is a seriously underestimated ancient town that perfectly avoids 99% of tourists
As an ancient town enthusiast, I really like visiting ancient towns. I have visited about ten ancient towns, big and small, including Zhouzhuang, Wuzhen, Tongli, Nanxun... Today I want to recommend the most low-key Luzhi Ancient Town among the six ancient towns in Jiangnan. This set of pictures was taken on October 1st, and you can see that there are really not many people there.
🙌 Transportation 🚘
🚌 Public transportation: depart from Suzhou Station/Suzhou North Station, take Metro Line 2 towards Sangtian Island, and exit at Exit 2 of Jingu Road Station. After exiting the station, take Bus No. 52 towards Yingbin Road at Jingu Road Bus Station, get off at Xiaoshi Road Bus Station, and walk for a while to the Ancient Town Archway. It takes about 1.5 hours.
🚗Taxi: A taxi from Suzhou Station costs about 80 yuan. A way to save money is to take the subway to Exit 2 of Jingu Road Subway Station, and then take a taxi to Luzhi Ancient Town, which costs about 30 yuan and takes less than an hour.
Tickets 🎫
The ancient town is free of charge, but individual attractions inside require separate tickets. The combined ticket is 60 yuan each, 45 yuan if you buy it online🫶, or you can buy it separately at the scenic spots, which is very cheap. The ticket to Baosheng Temple alone is 15 yuan.
Attractions Introduction🌾
Baosheng Temple was the biggest surprise of my trip to Luzhi. Compared with the huge crowds at Xiyuan Temple and Hanshan Temple, Baosheng Temple was really great! Yellow walls, green plants and bamboo forests extend beyond the area. The garden is filled with the sweet fragrance of osmanthus, and it is very comfortable to sit quietly. The Tang Dynasty wall sculptures of arhats inside are artistic treasures. There are three ancient ginkgo trees in the garden, two of which are more than 1,500 years old and one is more than 1,200 years old.
Several other attractions such as Xiao's House and Chen's House are not as good as Tuisi Garden in Tongli Ancient Town, Chen Hall and Zhang Hall in Zhouzhuang Ancient Town, Xian Garden in Mudu Ancient Town, etc. But the Baosheng Temple alone is worth the price of admission.
Accommodation 🏛
Outside the ancient town, there are economy hotels such as 7 Days Inn, Home Inn, Vienna Inn, etc., and the cost is about 300-400.
There are not many homestays in the ancient town! I stayed at Liuze B&B. Although the environment couldn't be compared with chain hotels, it was quite comfortable to sit in the yard, listen to the wind and play with my phone.
Food 🥞
Qiuxiang Begonia Cake is crispy on the outside and glutinous on the inside, but it is quite sweet, so people who are trying to control their sugar intake should try it with caution.
Menong Coffee, along the river, the coffee has a "Luzhi" cup sleeve, which is great for taking photos.
The Langqiao Aozao noodles have crispy fried fish placed in a lightly sweet soy sauce soup, garnished with some pickled cabbage. I think it’s quite delicious.
Written at the end‼
As a famous ancient town in the south of the Yangtze River, Luzhi does not have much to offer in terms of food, drink and entertainment, and its tourism facilities are even worse. But if you are looking for a relaxed and comfortable life with few people, it is really a good choice. The whole ancient town has a strong atmosphere of life, and the fragrance of osmanthus is everywhere. The most important thing is that there is not too much commercialization, which is closer to the original appearance of the ancient town.
