[2025 Hong Kong Restaurant] Travel Guide for Luk Yu Tea House (Updated May)

Near Central MTR Station, we arrived at 8 AM for breakfast and there were plenty of seats available. We ordered three dishes: shrimp dumplings, siu mai, and custard buns, and had jasmine tea. The prices are relatively high; our breakfast for three cost around 1500 TWD, but we all agreed that the food was worth it. The restaurant has a retro wooden decor, and the environment is comfortable, clean, and not crowded. Unlike other places, they don't use hot tea for cleaning. The shrimp dumplings had large, plump shrimp inside. I usually have a bad habit of only eating the filling of siu mai and leaving the skin, but the skin here was chewy and didn't taste powdery, so I ate it all. The siu mai was also delicious. I usually worry about a meaty smell, but there was none here, and the skin was thin and tasty. The custard buns were a surprise. We thought they would be filled with liquid custard, but the staff asked if we wanted them cut open, which made us worry they would spill out. However, the custard filling was solid and not overly sweet or greasy. We would definitely come back to try other dishes next time we're in Hong Kong.

Lu Yu Teahouse is the teahouse recommended by Michelin and rated first by Hong Kong people. From the retro Western teahouse style on the outside to the 1960s ceiling fans, lamps, rosewood, window grilles, screens and old staff in the restaurant, Lu Yu Teahouse gives people a very classic feel. ah. The name of Lu Yu Tea Room comes from the poet Lu Yu of the Tang Dynasty, who is China's tea saint, so the tea provided here is very particular. Of course, the price of tea is much higher than that of other tea restaurants; the tableware and bowls are custom-made by Lu Yu himself, and they have Lu Yu on them. Treasures and Chinese landscape paintings; order with "dessert paper", the dishes will change at different times. Among Lu Yu Teahouse's signature kung fu dim sum, be sure to order the slider chicken bun. The chicken stock is melted into the bun, which makes it delicious. The outer skin is dense and sticky, and the inner layer is moist with chicken juice. This labor-intensive method is probably only practiced by Lu Yu Teahouse in Hong Kong! There is also my favorite egg tart here. The rich egg-flavored filling and the crispy puff pastry are the best finishing touches! Lu Yu Teahouse is quite expensive, and the dim sum alone is quite high-end. If you have enough money, try some other Kung Fu dishes!

😄 Hahaha, in line with the logic of trying all the dishes, I had lunch at Fu He Yong for two days (I haven’t been to Lu Yu Tea House so it’s hard to make a comparison). 🍽️ Personally, I think the delicious ones are: Mushroom Siew Mai, Salted Pork Dumpling, Barbecued Pork Pastry, Shredded Radish Pastry. These snacks are very memorable. 🌱 Seasonal vegetables, double mushrooms and bean curd, with the flavor of Jiangsu and Zhejiang cuisine, very sweet and makes people feel the taste of home. 🍰 Desserts: I tried the date cake and sesame cake, which had the texture of gelatinous pastries. I personally felt they were neither good nor bad. The interior is full of antique charm, adorned with numerous Chinese calligraphy and paintings. The sign at the entrance has been in use since the old location, boasting a history of over sixty years. This time, we tried the following dishes: 1. Almond Soup with Pig Lung $280 (The almond flavor is very rich, and the pig lung is delicious. A must-try.) 2. Whole Shrimp Toast (The toast is very crispy and not greasy. The whole shrimp on top is excellent. A must-try.) 3. Roasted Pigeon with Yunnan Ham $400 (The Yunnan ham is very fragrant, and the pigeon slices are tender and tasty.) 4. Sweet and Sour Pork with Pineapple $240 (The sweet and sour pork is juicy.) 5. Stir-fried Bitter Melon with Beef $240 (The beef is very tender and smooth.) 6. This Lu Yu tea room, known as the "Rich Restaurant", is located in an inconspicuous alley in Central. Although the entire building has been renamed Lu Yu Building, you are still easily accidentally missed. However, to keep a god, such a facade is still very well recognized, Figure 3. The tea room has a history of more than 80 years, like a quiet museum, with old Qing style chairs, celebrity ink, Italian glazed glass, bronze old ceiling fans and so on. Many Hong Kong celebrities have always been here, and the history and stories of the place have always attracted them. As you can see, these regular customers usually have their own fixed positions. The boss of Lu Yu has already booked the Queen of England, who has already booked his name. In fact, Lu Yu tea room did not have the problem of booking, but these seats were all reserved for regular customers. Lu Yu's egg tarts are slightly smaller, and the skin is slightly thicker, but one bite is refreshing. Shrimp dumplings are thin and transparent, and the drums are full of shrimps. Because the shrimp is fresh, one bite down the fleshy teeth, fresh and juicy. The savory taste of the shrimp spreads from the tip of the tongue.
