For all mountain lovers and hikers, Taiwan is a good place to visit with countless mountain peaks over 3000m above sea level. One hike I recommend is the Chiaming Lake hike. It's a 3D2N hike, and I recommend the camping route instead of the lodge route as the lodge route is a to and fro journey and you get the same views on the way back. 📍Chishang is a good town to stay in before and after the hike In the camping route, we start from an elevation of around 1800m at 戒茂斯山 trailhead, before making our way up to about 3000m on the first day to the first campsite. We pass by xinwulu creek and river, and a few mountain peaks to take pictures. This is where you climb over the layer of clouds to see a magnificent sea of clouds. On the 2nd day, we continue the hike above 3000m where the air is relatively thin, across 3 campsites named after ball sports, like the football campsite, where you can rest to have lunch and take beautiful pictures. By evening we settled at our final campsite along a river called the hunterhouse campground. It is located at a valley and winds are very strong at night. There is even a chance to see deers if you are lucky (which we were). On the 3rd morning, we wake up early to start the push to Chiaming Lake, where we reached there by sunrise for scenic pictures. Afterwards, we continue the ascend towards Sancha Montain and Siangyang mountain, 2 mountain peaks towering over 3400 and 3600m respectively. At this point things will get quite tiring as it is a long day of hiking a few kilometres with a big bag. Cycling has always been a great choice for family trips, especially when riding through the Hualien-Taitung Valley, surrounded by mountains and water, fields and forests. If you have to pick one place to recommend, the 'Guanshan Town Circular Bike Path' in Taitung's Guanshan Town is definitely the top choice! The 12-kilometer-long circular bike path is divided into two sections: the water-friendly section and the mountain-friendly section. Starting from Guanshan Water Park, it follows the shallow Guanshan Dapai and Hongshi Creek, offering expansive field views along the way. Overlooking the crisscrossing rice paddies, your mood will naturally lift. With beautiful mountains, water, and scenery, cycling in Guanshan doesn't feel tiring at all. Although it takes 1.5 hours, the pleasant scenery along the way makes it very relaxing. Couples can even ride a tandem bike to test their coordination and stamina, adding a bit of fun. The other mountain-friendly section has some gentle uphill slopes, but it's manageable. At the highest point of the bike path, there's a pavilion called 'Zhongguan Sun and Moon Pavilion,' where you can overlook the town's scenery, rice fields, and canals from a high vantage point. It's very simple and natural, and quite comfortable.

Along the Coastal Highway No. 11, you may stumble upon this hidden gem nestled among the trees—the Beautiful Rice Treehouse. This place is not only a small shop selling local handicrafts and agricultural products but also a scenic spot where you can slow down, gaze at the sea and mountains. Climbing up the wooden stairs to the treehouse platform, a gentle breeze blows, and the view is vast. The highway and fields intersect, and the distant sea sparkles. Day 1: Depart from Taitung Train Station and take a shuttle bus to Taitung Fishing Port, where a 50-minute boat ride will take you to Green Island Fishing Port. After disembarking, I rented a motorcycle or electric scooter from a nearby rental shop. Those with an international driving license can rent a motorcycle, and those without can rent an electric scooter. The cost is 400 Taiwan dollars per day for a motorcycle and 600 Taiwan dollars per day for an electric scooter. After renting a scooter, you can go straight to the hotel to check in and then start your first day on Green Island. On the first day, you can drive around the island to get a feel for the surroundings. Then, discover some special spots on the map. It is recommended that on the first day I go snorkeling or to the only beach on Green Island, Great White Shark, to touch the water, and then sit by the sea to listen to the waves. There is a coffee shop called Pure with a very nice decor, and you can see the waves directly from inside the shop, where you can spend an afternoon. In the evening, you can find food on the busiest street in Green Island. Day 2: On the second day, it is recommended to go deep diving for about $2500 per person, including one air tank. Recently, there's a very popular croissant bread in Taitung that comes out of the oven hot and fresh every day. I was a bit shocked when I saw the croissant because it's quite large and topped with a generous amount of grapes, which makes it look very appetizing. However, it's too big for one person, I think it's just right for two to share. Their chocolate Basque cake is also incredibly impressive, with a rich and abundant chocolate flavor. Having afternoon tea in such a vintage place has its own unique charm.

A super Japanese-style, old-fashioned coffee shop with a nostalgic interior decoration reminiscent of grandma's kitchenware, cabinets, Datong baby figurines, vintage record players, and the iconic Black King Kong mobile phones. The highlight for kids is the traditional candy store filled with old-fashioned sweets. The shop also plays ancient songs, transporting you back in time to the era of our elders. The outer crust of the tarts is firm and flaky, and the filling inside is incredibly fragrant. It melts perfectly in your mouth with just the right level of sweetness, offering a unique experience compared to the egg tarts you usually eat. The gradient appearance of the drinks is perfect for photography, and the sweet and sour taste paired with desserts can help cut through the richness, giving your taste buds a new sensation. Taitung's number one scenic spot, my pick is Mr. Brown Avenue. Once you arrive following the signs, there are bike rental shops one after another by the road at the entrance. The prices are actually quite similar, so just choose the style you like or according to the number of people you're with. After a brief tutorial on how to operate the bikes, the shop will tell you the riding route, and then you're ready to hit the road. Mr. Brown Avenue truly lives up to its reputation. The straight avenue and the flowers and grasses by the roadside are all so photogenic. Of course, you can't miss the Takeshi Kaneshiro tree and the Jolin Tsai tree, but just take a look because if it's crowded, you'll have to queue up to take photos! The weather in Taitung is really super nice, so be sure to wear sunscreen, or you'll easily get tanned. On weekdays, there are fewer people, and you can take beautiful pictures. On weekends, it gets very crowded!

When you walk in, you will find that the lobby is not very big, with only a lounge area and a cafe. However, the overall decoration is good and the equipment is very new. What is more special is that the elevator button is very large. I stayed in a quadruple room, which was very spacious and clean. It had two extra large double beds and a bathtub, as well as a balcony with a view of the Taitung City street view. It was a pity that there was no socket next to the bed. There is an infinity pool on the rooftop, which is very beautiful when the sun shines on it. You can also see the Taitung sea view on the other side. The whole atmosphere is very good. The breakfast is quite ordinary, but there is beef noodles which is pretty good. This is a fairly new hotel. The price is cheaper than a five-star hotel, but it is still a bit expensive. I highly recommend that everyone who comes to Taitung should consider staying here. It has convenient living functions, is not far from major urban attractions, and the hotel is also beautiful and clean.
