[China] A hot topic on social media! "Hotowan Village" where you can experience the world of Ghibli
The Joshi Islands off the coast of Shanghai (Hangzhou), China
Among them is Gouqi Island, where fishing for mussels and other fish is thriving
It is currently a popular remote island that can be enjoyed as a weekend trip from Shanghai for about one night and two days,
but in one corner of Gouqi Island, there is the abandoned village "Houtouwan Village", which once flourished as a fishing village and has been a hot topic on social media recently
The island once flourished so much that it was called "Little Taiwan", and at its peak, Houtouwan Village had a population of 3,000
However, due to the overpopulation and inconvenience of transportation, administrative guidance was given and the villagers were forced to relocate
Finally, in 2002, it was completely deserted and abandoned
The village, with its houses left behind, has had its exterior walls collapsed due to the topography and climatic conditions of the land, and some collapsed, and a village was born, engulfed in vegetation and moss.
This lost civilization, decadent, melancholic space gives you a taste of the "Ghibli-like worldview" in Japan.
By the way, when I visited, it was not completely deserted, and only one group of islanders remained and lived there.
And although Hou Tou Wan Village was once free to enter, it has now become a tourist spot, with an observation deck and a fee to visit.
