Longshan Island is the largest island in the central area of Qiandao Lake. It is mainly a cultural attraction. Hai Rui's poems, Shixia Academy, Banmu Square Pond, Bell Tower, etc. are built on the island. After going to the island from the East Pier, you can see a wide staircase leading to the top of the mountain. At the front is a memorial archway with the words "Longshan". It is said that this memorial archway was originally given by the emperor after Fang Fengchen, a Chun'an native, won the top prize in the imperial examination during the Southern Song Dynasty. In front of the memorial archway, there are three platforms, and two thick dragon pillars stand on each platform, a total of six. Going further east, the ancient building that catches your eye is the Hai Rui Temple. During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, Hai Rui was transferred from Chun'an after his term of office expired. In order to commemorate his achievements in hard work and clean government, the people of Chun'an erected a "Departure Monument" and built a shrine to commemorate him. Today, the new Hai Rui Temple on the island was built in 1985. There is a stele corridor in the front hall of the temple, most of which are from the hands of famous masters of ancient and modern times. There is a nine-foot-tall statue of Hai Rui in the back hall, and a group of Chinese paintings reflecting Hai Rui's achievements during his lifetime are hung on the left and right walls. Climbing up the stairs from Hai Rui Temple, you will see birds singing, flowers blooming, and lush trees along the way. Walking along the 500-step stone path, you can directly reach the Ninggu Bell Tower, where you can also overlook the mountains and waters of Qiandao Lake. It is a good place to enjoy the scenery.
