[2025 Birmingham Attraction] Travel Guide for Library of Birmingham (Updated May)

📍Birmingham Library: 14 St James's Square, St. James's, London SW1Y 4LG, UK 🕖9:30-21:00 (Closed on Sundays) ✅One of the oldest libraries in the UK, built in 1841 I visited to see the view from the library rooftop garden. The exterior is as glamorous as a department store, and the interior is spacious and grand, giving a luxurious feel.

The soufflé is delicious, but the bubble tea is just so-so 【Uncle Cake】P8, saw it on my phone while eating, bought the classic taro and pork floss bread, the focus is on the filling, the bread is pretty average 【Little Seagull】P9, then walked to the pedestrian street and bought Little Seagull, the store is not big, but there is a student discount 【Art Gallery】It seems to be 6 pounds per student, only one floor, finished touring in an hour 【Canals】P10-11, walking by the canal to digest the food is very comfortable, the boat ride seems to be 10 pounds per person 【Chinatown, Toppoki】 P12, went to a Korean restaurant next to Chinatown, feels better than the Korean food in Nottingham! The one-day trip journal ends here! There are not many attractions, more suitable for shopping and eating Chocolate factory requires advance booking!

It was a lovely and sunny day to visit Birmingham. For a day trip, I had a chance to walk around city center and enjoy the food and drinks. In the morning time, it was a bit chilly but luckily sunny for afternoon time. When I arrived to Birmingham New Street Train station 🚉, I headed to Birmingham Town Hall 🏛️, and Birmingham Library📚. Then I walked through the Birmingham canal 🏞️ and taken a photo on love lock bridge 🌉. For food and drinks, I've been two different spots of Wetherspoon, but The Briar Rose was one of the most beautiful wetherspoon place I've ever been so far. One of my favorite spots was Brindleyplace, a picturesque canal-side area lined with restaurants and cafés. Walking here at sunset, watching the reflections of boats and old brick warehouses dance on the water, felt serene. It’s a perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring. Another must-visit? The Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. It’s home to a jaw-dropping collection of Pre-Raphaelite art and local history. As someone who loves art, I found myself lingering much longer than expected, soaking in both the beauty and the storytelling. And if you’re into shopping or just want to experience the city’s energetic pulse, head to the Bullring & Grand Central. The architecture alone—especially the iconic Selfridges building—is worth the visit. But I found real joy wandering the independent shops in Digbeth, where street art explodes with color and creativity. Best time to visit? I’d recommend late spring (May to early June) when the weather is mild, flowers bloom across the parks, and outdoor festivals start popping up around the city. Insider tip: Grab a bite at Original Patty Men—arguably the best burger I’ve ever had in the UK. And if you’re a book lover, don’t skip the futuristic Library of Birmingham, which has some of the best skyline views from the top floor garden. I like the amazing view from terrace of Birmingham Library in the centre, which is free entry by the way. You may seat there, read the book, drink the coffee and just breathe looking at the sky🌞

Ascending the escalators past floors lined with countless books, I arrived at the rooftop garden terrace. From this vantage point, the city unfolded in every direction—a mix of historic steeples, contemporary high-rises, and verdant patches below. The aroma of herbs and flowers from the rooftop beds mingled with the fresh breeze, offering a rare and serene escape above the bustling streets. Coming to Birmingham, if the schedule is not in a hurry, You can also visit the Library of Birmingham in your spare time. The appearance is a bit like a cake. Walking into the library and looking at the Floor plan, a friendly staff member suggested taking the lift to the very top level and starting the tour from there. The top floor is the Shakespeare Memorial Room. Walking down, the 7th floor leads to the outdoor Secret Garden. There is also one on the 4th floor.
