Traditional way of life Lee Jetty 🛶 Penang
Lee Jetty is a village that still has the original way of life, living only in houses on stilts by the sea, which has more people living than anywhere else. It has not become a business center. When walking to the end of the bridge, you will find that Lee Jetty is quite quiet. The view is open, the sea is wide as far as the eye can see, the sky touches the water, it is a very beautiful nature. There are not many people, so you can stand and enjoy the breeze, watch the view and take pictures comfortably.

A Peaceful Jetty
#penang
Lee Jetty is located at 57-58 Pengkalan Weld, 10300 Georgetown, and it is around 550 meters 7 minutes walk from Weld Quay Jetty Bus Terminal.
The clan jetties of Penang were originally built by the Chinese Hokkien immigrants from the Fujian province of China in the 19th century, these settlements on stilts along Weld Quay are now over a century old. Lee Jetty is one of the shortest among the clan jetties in Georgetown.
As for Lee Jetty, most of the houses are occupied by the local residents, lesser crowds and less commercialized, so it is much more peaceful and quiet.
Baosheng God of Health is their ancestral deity that is house in their temple Kim Aun San Si.

PENANG JETTY
The clan jetties of Penang (yes, more than one!) are close to George Town at Weld Quay Jetty,
Certain clan jetties have become very touristy while others still retain their tranquility. If you can’t decide which one to visit, let us help you with this post!
9 Clan Jetties Of Penang
With 2 clan jetties already demolished, there are just 7 of these unique waterfront communities remaining.
1. Ong Clan Jetty Penang (姓王桥)
2. Lim Clan Jetty Penang (姓林桥)
3. Chew Clan Jetty Penang (姓周桥)
4. Tan Clan Jetty Penang (姓陈桥)
5. Lee Clan Jetty Penang (姓李桥)
6. New Clan Jetty Penang (杂姓桥)
7. Yeoh Clan Jetty Penang (姓杨桥)
8. Peng Aun Jetty Penang (平安桥)
Peng Aun Jetty was demolished in 2006 despite protests from heritage conservationists.
The main reason for its demolition are the flats off the Jelutong Expressway.
9. Koay Clan Jetty Penang (姓郭桥)
Similarly, Koay Clan Jetty was demolished in favor of the same flats.#penang #jimbarayap #staycation #travel_2022

Penang's Mysterious Clan Jetties
In the northwest of the Malay Peninsula lies Penang Island, home to a unique settlement known as the 'Clan Jetties,' where families with the same surname live on houses built on stilts over the sea. Established by Hokkien Chinese immigrants who settled here in the mid-19th century, it is now a popular tourist destination and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Originally, there were nine jetties in the northeastern part of Penang Island, but only seven remain today. Each jetty is named after a family surname, such as Chew Jetty, Lim Jetty, Tan Jetty, and Lee Jetty, where members of the same clan live together.

Lee Jetty

This is one of a series of jetties that are named using Chinese surnames. Apparently, in the old days China migrants to South East Asia like to stick together according to their China home village or surnames. They formed clans and do business by hiring own clan people. The Lee jetty is one of the more elaborated one , but don’t stop just there. Visit the rest which are just next to each others. Suggest go on weekday evening when it’s not so hot. The sunset view is spectacular!

I feel Lee Jetty View much prettier than other Jetty. Surrounding are locals staying, but they are not doing business. Hence, try to keep our voice down when we enter. The view of daytime and nighttime of the sea are different.
In a short walk, you can reach the end and see the sea view, which I believe is one of the must-visit spots in Penang.
