I visited Italy four times in one year, and I'm here to share the best routes from north to south!
Italy, a country full of romance and art, always attracts me. I visited four times in one year, and twice I chose this beautiful land without hesitation. Today, I will share a carefully planned itinerary for Italy, taking you from northern Italy to southern Italy, and showing you the scenery you can't miss.
Milan: The starting point of fashion and art
The journey begins in Milan, a city full of fashion. It is not only a shopping paradise, but also a palace of art. Here, you can enjoy world-class art works and feel the profound culture of Italy.
Lake Como: The back garden of Milan
Depart from Milan and drive for half an hour to Lake Como. This quiet lake is surrounded by mountains, and the lake is clear and bottomless, like a beautiful picture. Stroll in the small town by the lake and feel the tranquility and beauty. Varenna, Bellagio, Lenno, each town has its own unique charm, especially those villas hidden in the lake and mountains, such as Villa Monastero, Villa Melzi and Villa del Balbianello, which are even more fascinating.
Dolomites: Green Wonderland in July, August and September
Continue north to the Dolomites. Here, July, August and September are the time when the grass is green, and there may be snow in mid-September. Drive for 4 hours from Milan to this fairyland. On the Alpe di Siusi, you can enjoy the magnificent sunrise and sunset. The Sporthotelsonne where we stayed has a great view. In addition, Ortisei and Val di Funes are also places not to be missed, especially the iconic small church in Val di Funes, which is impressive.
Florence and Tuscany: The cradle of the Renaissance
Go south to Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance, and Piazzale Michelangelo is a great place to watch the sunset. In Tuscany, from May to early June is the time when the grass is green. It takes 3 hours to drive from Rome. Here, you can live for a week and feel the tranquility and comfort. Recommended accommodation Villa Cozzano, located in a beautiful manor, surrounded by S-shaped cypress trees and beautiful houses. In addition, the town of Pienza is also a good place to heal the soul. It is located in the valley and is full of tranquility and harmony.
Rome: The charm of the eternal city
How can you miss Rome when you come to Italy? This eternal city is full of historical and cultural atmosphere, and every corner hides a story. Here, you can explore the ruins of ancient Rome and feel the shock of time and space.
Sicily: A dreamland all year round
Finally, come to Sicily. Here you can play all year round. Although the summer season is hot, the beautiful scenery of Cefalu, Taormina and Syracuse is definitely worth a visit. Cefalu is a postcard of Sicily, Taormina is a colorful town on the cliff, and Syracuse is the location of the beautiful legend of Sicily. Flying from Rome or Milan to Palermo or Catania, and then renting a car to visit Sicily, is a very comfortable way to travel.
This route from northern Italy to southern Italy covers many beautiful scenery and features of Italy. Whether it's fashionable Milan, quiet Lake Como, magnificent Dolomites, Renaissance Florence and Tuscany, eternal Rome or dreamy Sicily, it's all fascinating. If you love Italy like me, you might as well follow this route guide and go deep into this beautiful land!

Unforgettable Hospitality: A Warm Welcome at a 17th-Century Monastery B&B in Como
#hospitality #100waysoftravel #italytrip #como #accomodation #lakecomo
Our stay at a charming B&B Convento S. Antonio in Como left us with fond memories, thanks to its warm hospitality and unique setting. The B&B is housed in a stunning 17th-century monastery, with beautifully preserved wall and ceiling sculptures that left us in awe. We adored our cozy loft-style room, which added to the experience. The owner was incredibly helpful and full of humor—when we realized Italy uses different plugs from other European countries, he kindly lent us adaptors from his kitchen. He even provided a detailed map, marked with recommended restaurants and must-see attractions. Breakfast was a highlight, served buffet-style at a large communal table, and we were lucky to visit during peach season, enjoying a variety of sweet and juicy peaches.

Lake Como is the perfect spot for a romantic getaway, with its stunning scenery and charming little towns scattered around the lake. Surrounded by mountains and full of Italian charm, it’s a place where you can really unwind. We made sure to visit Bellagio, Menaggio, and Varenna—must-see towns that each have their own unique vibe. Instead of driving, we took ferries between the towns, which gave us amazing views of the colorful villages along the lake. We loved strolling through the peaceful streets, stopping for lunch and dinner at cozy Italian restaurants, and of course, enjoying plenty of gelato. The whole experience was just magical and the perfect escape for couples.

Good morning from Lake Como 🇮🇹
#lakes
Spending a day at Lake Como this summer was like stepping into a postcard! The lake’s beauty is truly something you have to see to believe. We started our day in the charming town of Bellagio, often called the “Pearl of Lake Como.” The ferry ride to Bellagio cost about €10, and the views from the water were breathtaking, with the Alps in the background and elegant villas lining the shores.
Once in Bellagio, we wandered through the narrow cobblestone streets, filled with boutiques and cafes. We visited the stunning Villa Melzi Gardens, where the entrance fee was €6. The gardens were incredibly peaceful, with lush greenery and statues overlooking the lake.
Afterward, we enjoyed a leisurely lunch at a lakeside restaurant, savoring the local cuisine while soaking in the view. The day ended with a relaxing walk along the lakefront, watching the sunset over the water. Lake Como’s combination of natural beauty, charming towns, and serene atmosphere made it an unforgettable experience. 🌊🏞️ #trip #LakeComo #ItalianLakes #Bellagio #ScenicViews #TravelItaly

Getting There: The ferry from Argegno offers breathtaking views and drops you right in Bellagio. Alternatively, buses and ferries connect from Lake Como's main train stations, offering scenic routes to this charming town.
💎Exploring Bellagio
Known as the 'Pearl of Lake Como', Bellagio is all about elegance and natural beauty. Spend your time wandering through its cobbled streets, exploring quaint shops, and enjoying the inviting cafés.

At Bar Pasticceria Rossi in Bellagio, you can savor some of the nicest hot chocolate, offering a warm, comforting treat amidst the charming backdrop of this Lake Como gem. I had a good break there after walking around. Bellagio is also perfect for picking up silk products and unique handmade gifts.

If you come to Milan, Italy, be sure to leave a day for Lake Como!
Como is the most famous lake in northern Italy, a common saying among the locals is: those who have vacationed at Lake Como are the ones who truly understand life. Lake Como is near the Alps, so in addition to the beautiful lake view, there is also a magnificent feeling~.
If you come to I sincerely recommend a day trip to Como. It takes an hour by train from Milan, and there are many beautiful small towns scattered around the lake. The scenery is very stunning, many locals come here for the weekend, wearing swimsuits and jumping directly into the blue lake water, super decompression!
Route: Milan Central Railway Station-Veranna Town (1.5 hours)- Bellagio (15 minutes by boat)-Como Town (1 hour by boat)-Return to Milan (1 hour)
Travel Guide Cable Car on the Mountain Top
You can see the distant Alps and the nearby Lake Como, round-trip ticket is 6.6 euros, every fifteen minutes, 5 minutes to the top of the mountain.
Lake Tour Boat
About an hour, will stay in the surrounding towns, you can sightsee on the boat without getting off, 8.9 euros per person
Cathedral
Classic Gothic architecture, free to visit, no tickets required, but the toilet charges, if you can't accept it, you can go to a coffee shop or bar for a free use
Veranna: There are many boats from Veranna to Bellagio, but they are not direct, you have to go to Menaggio first, there is a castle on the top of the mountain in Veranna, but you have to climb the mountain by yourself, if you really don't want to walk, it's also very comfortable to walk by the lake
Bellagio: Compared to Veranna, I like it here more, although the place is very small, but there are all kinds of exquisite small shops everywhere, the alleys in the sun are like with filters, various colors of walls, taking pictures and so on are really beautiful, addicted in a second~

Lake Como | God's backyard, too beautiful and healing!
Lake Como in Italy is the "heavenly garden left on earth by God".
Surrounded by many beautiful and tranquil garden villas.
Every scene is like a movie frame, full of atmosphere.
When you see it with your own eyes, you will find that the real scenery is even more beautiful than the photos. Walking among the flowers, trees, lake and mountains, the mist lingers as if entering a dream that is too beautiful to be true.
When the mind and body are completely relaxed, walking and strolling are extremely enjoyable. Every day, I hope life can be slower, even slower, because the earthly paradise is like this!
If we could have our wedding here, it would be so romantic.
Of course, staying for a while on a honeymoon is the perfect choice.

Annual Trip to Lake Como
We fell in love with this Y-shaped lake of glacial origin since our first trip here years ago. Since then, it has been our annual holiday destination.
We would fly in to Bergamo Airport, and then take the Italian regional train northwards to Como.
It is a huge lake and you can choose between different towns to set up your base. You can decide on either Bellagio, Varenna or Menaggio. Each has its own allure that will charm and fascinate you differently.
Then, the most enjoyable thing would be to just walk along the water, hop on the boat or even jump for a swim in the lake. Of course, please check the water temperature first! #bucketlistreboot #passionpassport #lakes #la

Varenna, Lake Como, Italy
#外游
The most classic way to visit Lake Como is to take a cruise and visit the towns in the middle of Lake Como such as Varenna, Bellagio and Menaggio...
Departing from Menaggio, the first stop is Varenna, which takes about 15 minutes.
After getting off the boat, I walked along the road and saw flowers everywhere~ Against the backdrop of the colorful flowers, this place is really beautiful💛
There are also many restaurants in the town facing the lake for enjoying lunch. Dining here while looking at the beautiful scenery adds a lot of romance! There are also many specialty shops~it’s great to browse around!
If you go south, there is a very famous botanical garden, Villa Monastero. It is filled with all kinds of flowers and has an endless view of the lake. It is a very suitable place for taking pictures.

Day Trip to Lake Como
While on holiday to Milan, I took a day trip to Lake Como. It only took 45mins by train from Milan Centrale to Varenna Station and the return trip was only 13 euros.
There are many different towns within Lake Como, and I visited 2 towns - Varenna and Bellagio. To get within the towns, you can take a ferry that arrives every 30 minutes and is 4.60 euros per trip.
I would definitely recommend heading to Bellagio.
Also called the Pearl of Lake Como, Bellagio is the perfect mix of photogenic streets, small shops, wonderful restaurants, and gorgeous views across Lake Como. The town of Bellagio sits at the tip of the promontory known as the Triangolo Lariano.
jtlt
There are few places as romantic as Lake Como, and even fewer lakeside towns as charming as Bellagio. Called "the Pearl of Lake Como", Bellagio is a perfect destination for a relaxing vacation with pizzazz and enchanting panoramas.
Bellagio is situated in a picturesque position on Lake Como, on the tip of the promontory which juts into the lake and separates it into two branches, with Como to the west and Lecco to the east. The town has always had an aristocratic dignity, and has drawn respite seekers for centuries. It has an elegant air yet with the water sports and mountain activities, is not a stuffy place, either.
The most ancient part of Bellagio occupies that area at the end of the promontory and is known as 'the Borgo'. It is a pretty combination of stairways lined with colorful shops with the finest quality merchandise and excellent restaurants, little piazzas and sidewalk cafes. Numerous little characteristic hamlets are scattered both along the lake and the hilly slopes above the Borgo, and there are walking paths connecting them. Arcades with shops below, flower boxes, decorative iron balconies and cobbled lanes make for an attractive atmosphere. Bellagio retains Old World appeal.
Because it has been a getaway for wealthy dignitaries, there are many villas around the town, some with spectacular gardens. Don't miss Villa Melzi's garden with scultpures and the park of Villa Serbelloni. A scenic spot you'll want to visit is Punt Spartivento, literally "divide the wind" where the promontory comes to a point in the lake. Stop for a drink in the warm wood-laid historic Caffe Rossi, which retains the fittings and charm of a by-gone age, with tables under the arcade. The Museum of Navigational Instruments is an interesting stop, and there are plenty of water sports, boat trips and hikes in the hills to enjoy, too. A tourist train lets you see a bit further afield, or you can catch a ferry to Varenna for a day.

Traveling in Milan, I suddenly remembered Lake Como.
Take a double-decker train, 50 kilometers away, it takes an hour to arrive.
This ice lake located under the Alps is a famous resort in Milan with a lake length of 31 kilometers and a width of 5 kilometers. Lakeside yachts such as forests, surrounded by mountains on three sides, mostly cliffs, scattered villas, churches, stone red brick buildings, red top towers, blue sky, pigeons flying freely.
It is said that most of the upper Europeans have private holiday villas in Lake Como.
We walked out of the old train station and walked along the lakeside park, looking out over the lake for cruises. There are three people in the park who are squatting on the sorghum, and they are entertaining themselves and win the applause of the onlookers. Also, don't forget to buy a cup of delicious ice cream at a roadside shop, people on the open-air cafe, almost one hand: that is the standard for Italian travel.
Come Lake is also the location of the movie "Star Wars", the famous director Lucas will sequel to the clone attack, the scene where Skywalker Anakin and Amidala fell in love at first sight. The beautiful lakes and mountains make the audience a wonderland.
We look at the towering hilltops of the lake and there are cable cars that carry tourists up the hill along steep hillsides. Looking along the lakeshore to the hillside, a slate path extends upwards. There are various specialty shops on both sides of the road. Cafes, restaurants, hotels, and craft shops are under the sparkling reflections, such as dreamlike beauty.
Twilight is approaching, and then take the train back to Milan, the beauty of Lake Como, always feels unfinished.

Serenity and Charm in Menaggio
#europetrip #Menaggio #italy #italy_views
Menaggio, a charming and less crowded town on the shores of Lake Como, stole our hearts with its peaceful ambiance and stunning scenery. We loved strolling along the lakefront promenade, taking in the serene views of the glistening water framed by the surrounding mountains. Stopping for a refreshing gelato from a local shop added a delightful touch to our leisurely walk. One of the highlights was visiting the Church of Santo Stefano, a historic gem with beautiful frescoes and a tranquil atmosphere that invited quiet reflection. Menaggio offered the perfect blend of relaxation and authentic Italian charm, making it a memorable stop on our journey.

Hidden Gem: Como at Lake Como
#europetrip #italy #como
While many tourists head straight to Bellagio or other popular areas, the town of Como itself is a hidden gem worth exploring. We spent two delightful days strolling through this charming lakeside town, discovering its rich history and serene beauty. Highlights include visiting the impressive Como Cathedral (Duomo di Como), admiring the elegant Villa Olmo, and wandering the picturesque Piazza San Fedele. A leisurely walk along the lakefront promenade offered stunning views of the shimmering lake, especially during sunny autumn days when the vibrant foliage added a magical touch. Como’s tranquil atmosphere and captivating scenery left a lasting impression.

Mandarin Oriental, Lago di Como.
🌻The home of Italian celebrities - Mandarin Oriental, Lago di Como.
🌱The hotel is made up of several villas, and the Villa Roccabruna, where the lobby is located, was built in the 19th century and was the home of the famous Italian opera singer Giuditta Pasta.
🌱The rooms in the hotel combine modern and minimalist styles with a strong oriental flavor. The blue-green decor is soft and delicate, and the lake view can be enjoyed from the living room to the bedroom, making it a very pleasant combination of natural environment and comfort. The terrace is a great addition, and if the weather is nice, it's a great place to lie on a lounger and enjoy the sun.
🌱In autumn and winter, Lake Como is even more gentle and deep than in summer. Especially at sunset, the pink and blue sky, the golden waves on the lake and the golden leaves are intertwined, so beautiful that you can't take your eyes off them.
🌱The hotel has three dining venues, a Japanese and Italian restaurant, a simple bar and bistro, and a poolside snack bar, and the hotel also offers a boat trip around the lake. Of course, there is also room service, with a variety of options to choose from.
