Attraction name: Manuela’s Cafe Location: Kyle of Lochalsh, Scottish Highlands Manuela’s cafe is a superb outdoor coffee shop intended for your summer break. It is a fifteen minute drive from Kyle of Lochalsh railway station and is within walking distance of Eilen Donan Castle. The cafe serves coffee and superb baked goods. The scenery surrounding the cafe is superb. A bridge now connects the Isle of Skye to the mainland. The Kyleakin Loop provides an excellent introduction to the Isle of Skye and the surrounding area. Starting at the Backpackers hostel you can follow the path alongside the estuary keeping the bridge in view. Once you reach the roundabout at the top turn left and the path makes its ascent through woodland. It's a pleasant circular walk, moderately challenging with views of the Skye Bridge, the village of Kyleakin and the Cullin mountains . You can also see the Torridon Mountains in the distance. The walk is 3 km in distance and takes about an hour to complete. The trail can be rugged in places so stout walking shoes and or hiking boots are advisable. This walk is seen as an excellent introduction for first time visitors to the Isle of Skye.

On arrival at the Kyle of Lochalsh I took a bus to the Isle of Skye. It's a couple of miles to the youth hostel aka Skye Backpackers. This hostel offers value for money accommodation to the independent traveller. I wasn't there long enough to explore the island in its entirety but this trip served as a good introduction to Skye and its outstanding natural beauty and breath taking scenery. There's a short easy walk from the hostel to the village of Kyleakin with an optional visit to Casteal Maol. Hiking boots and or stout walking shoes recommended Check tide times; a visit may not be possible at high tide.
