🌱 Doi Luang National Park, Doi Nok, Phayao Province, is 1,694 meters above sea level. 🌱 The distance from the starting point to the tent site is approximately 9 kilometers. There are 2 ways to go up the mountain: walk up via Phayao Province or walk up via Lampang Province. Both routes are equally steep. 🌱 We chose to go up via Phayao Province. During the walk up the mountain, we encountered slippery, steep, and dangerous paths along the way. 🌱 For example, walking up Moo Mae Dong, this hill is quite brutal. Walking on normal feet is already difficult, but we have to use our other 2 hands to push ourselves up to the top. And that's not all. Before we reach our tent site, we will encounter the last extremely brutal hill, the Stairway to Heaven. In my opinion, this hill is not as steep as the first one, but it is longer. It was considered to have exhausted all the energy of Khao Tom Mat. 🌱 When the sun of the new day shone with a light drizzle, we started packing up the tents and getting ready to go to the top of Doi Nok and walk back. 🌱 On this second day, we walked very hard, about 13-14 kilometers (I must say it was really hard). 🌱 We walked to pay homage to Phra That Doi Nok, the mountain of faith, a round trip distance of about 6 kilometers. The top is about 1,100 meters above sea level (not sure). The top on the day we went was mostly covered in fog because it had just rained earlier. 🌱 After we were up there for a while, we hurried back because there was another 8 kilometers to walk down. It might be dark and dangerous if we returned later. 🌱 When we reached the way back to the pickup point, we saw the path and were discouraged because the path was full of mud and slippery soil. In conclusion, it took us almost 6 hours to walk down the 8 kilometers. The sunlight was getting dark while we were walking in the forest, but in the darkness, there was still the light of the officers. Lake Phayao isn’t on the normal tourist trail but it’s well worth a stop. It’s the largest lake in northern Thailand and famously has a sunken temple. Phayao was very different, large empty roads, plenty of restaurants, no tourists. We ran and walked on beautiful bike paths around the lake, enjoyed sunsets and sunrises and wondered why nobody comes here. It was a slice of real Thailand and would make an excellent digital nomad base. #HikingTrip Our first trip of 3 days and 2 nights in the forest started with chaos because we changed our plans less than 4 hours before the trip. But in the end, we ended up at Doi Luang Phayao - Doi Nok. Even though we were not fully prepared, luckily we had some exercise experience, so we could handle the brutal route. Even though we were so tired that we almost gave up many times. This trip was harder than we thought because the porters left us, so we had to carry our own luggage. The path was diverse, both flat, steep, rocky, waterfalls, and many more. At many points, we had to use our hands to climb. Sometimes we even crawled until our hands were rough and cracked. We also got stung by bees. But what helped us keep going was the encouragement from our fellow travelers and the porters who helped us. The climb to Doi Nok was the hardest point for us because we had to overcome our fear of heights. We almost cried many times. But when we reached the top of the mountain, the beautiful view around us made us forget all our tiredness and worries. It was a scene that was truly worth the effort. This was a trip where we didn't shower or wash our faces very often. But what we got back were experiences and positive energy from nature. The distance was over 12 kilometers and the tens of thousands of calories burned. It not only helped our body recover But it also helps to fully replenish our spirits.
