It was a trip to Graz, Austria. Upon arrival, we were immediately charmed by its blend of history, culture, and scenic beauty 🙌 If you’re looking to explore without too much walking, Graz is perfect, with a well-preserved medieval Old Town and plenty of photogenic spots that are easily accessible. We started our day at Schlossberg, the hilltop castle 🏰 that dominates Graz’s skyline. The panoramic views of the city from here are unbeatable, especially during golden hour when the sunlight casts a warm glow over the rooftops ✨ The funicular ride up is a great option if you prefer to avoid a steep walk. Once you’re at the top, the castle offers fantastic photo opportunities, from the clock tower to the surrounding hills 📸 📍Schlossberg, Schlossberg 1, 8010 Graz, Austria We also explored Hauptplatz, Graz’s main square, where we admired the beautiful architecture of the historic buildings surrounding it. The square is perfect for a leisurely stroll, and the colorful facades offer plenty of photo opportunities, especially around the Landhaus, with its striking Renaissance architecture 📸 You can also stop by one of the many cafes for a coffee ☕️ and enjoy the lively atmosphere of the square. 📍Hauptplatz, 8010 Graz, Austria Landhaus, Herrengasse 16, 8010 Graz, Austria We then visited Kunsthaus Graz, the “Friendly Alien”, a futuristic, blob-like structure that stands in stark contrast to the city’s historic buildings. It’s a favorite for both locals and photographers 📸 due to its unique design and reflective surfaces. We found it to be one of the most photogenic spots in Graz, especially when the sun ☀️ catches its curves and edges. 📍Kunsthaus Graz, Lendkai 1, 8020 Graz, Austria We then made our way to the Murinsel, an artificial island in the Mur River, connected by bridges. It’s an incredibly cool, modern structure, shaped like a shell, offering beautiful views of the river and the city. It’s an easy place to access, and we enjoyed snapping some pictures 📸 of the architectural contrast between this sleek, contemporary design and the older buildings around it 😍 📍Murinsel, Murinsel, 8010 Graz, Austria Finally, for the perfect end to our day, we visited Eggenberg Palace, a bit off the beaten path but definitely worth the short trip. The east side of the Graz Art Museum can serve as a giant display screen, presenting information related to the art and cultural activities held inside. Its unusual shape is fundamentally different from traditional exhibition hall structures. This massive building is affectionately called the Friendly Alien by its creators. In terms of form and materials, it is deliberately contrasted with the surrounding Baroque-style red-tiled roofs. Some think it looks like a bizarre submarine, while others say it resembles a 'gilled giant beast' surfacing from the water. The Graz Art Museum has three floors, with the top floor hall designed without columns. Natural light enters the interior through 15 pipes protruding from the roof. The hall features a movable ramp, allowing visitors to be slowly 'sucked' into the exhibition hall in the raised middle part, creating a feeling of being engulfed by art.
