The Sticks, Kuala Kubu Bharu
Tucked away in the lush rainforest of Kuala Kubu Bharu in Hulu Selangor, The Sticks is a quaint eco-resort built on a former tin mining site. Built with environmental sustainability in mind, the resort generates electricity through solar power, sources water from a nearby stream, and the space was constructed with minimal clearance and disturbance to its natural surroundings.
Located just an hour away from Kuala Lumpur, The Sticks is a perfect off-the-grid nature escape - you'll get to leap into the arms of nature without having to venture too far off the city. This nature hideaway allows you to go on adventurous nature walks, take a refreshing dip in the stream, lie back and stargaze from a spacious wooden verandah, or 'pamper' yourself to a lazy nap in your tendok (the affectionate name for rooms at The Sticks that are a cross between a tent and a pondok). Urbanites craving for a cool, quiet, and restful getaway will get what you need at this secluded sanctuary.

Kuala Kubu Baru (KKB), nestled in the foothills of Selangor, is one of Malaysia's most underrated tourist gems. Often overshadowed by the bustling cities of Kuala Lumpur and Shah Alam, KKB offers a peaceful retreat with its rich history, natural beauty, and outdoor adventures.
Nature lovers will enjoy the lush greenery and tranquil rivers that make this town a paradise for hiking, waterfall trekking, and picnics. The Sungai Chiling Waterfall, one of Selangor's most beautiful, offers a refreshing escape, while the nearby Fraser’s Hill is perfect for birdwatching and cooler climates. Historically, Kuala Kubu Baru is steeped in colonial charm, with old-world architecture and landmarks like the KKB Clock Tower and the Masjid Jamek Ar-Rahimah, reflecting its heritage. Visitors can also learn about the town's history at the Kuala Kubu Baru Historical Gallery.
