Museums
Kobe Maritime Museum was opened in April 1987 to commemorate the 120th anniversary of Kobe's opening of the port. The theme of the museum is "sea, ship and port". The white frame reflects the sail of the ship and the building of the waves. Under the blue sky, it looks like a sailboat and waves, and it is in sharp contrast with the green Rokko Mountain and the red Kobe Port Tower, leaving a deep impression. At night, it lights up blue and becomes a symbol of Kobe Port.

A very stylish Starbucks cafe
The world's strongest chain "STARBUCKS" a little away from the main town
The only Starbucks coffee on the island⭐️
It's a little far from the main town Little Venice, but it's about a 30-40 minute walk (there are a lot of slopes) to get there!
On this pure white island, Starbucks is also pure white🤍 and the terrace seats were very stylish!
They have a wide variety of Frappuccinos and drinks that you can't find in Japan🌈
(The orange in the photo is a pumpkin drink🎃)

A really g
A really good little museum. As Kawasaki is one of the most important Japanese companies that existed through the Meiji restoration, World War 2 and up to the modern era, this museum is also a history of modern Japan itself. It's also very important to the port of Kobe where Kawasaki is a large company.
There is plenty to fascinate history buffs, those interested in engineering, and of course there are the motorbikes which are just cool by themselves :)
We were able to appreciate how Kawasaki has evolved through the years and how they shaped the technologies we have today. The museum is also interactive and very interesting.

Kobe Day Trip: Anime and Adventure in the Port City
Kobe isn’t just about breathtaking views and Kobe beef—it’s also a haven for anime fans and families seeking fun-filled attractions. This day trip blends the charm of Kobe’s landmarks with whimsical stops for anime lovers and theme park enthusiasts.
Start your day just outside Kobe in Takarazuka, home to the Tezuka Osamu Memorial Hall, dedicated to the “God of Manga.” Known for creating iconic works like Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atom) and Black Jack, Tezuka’s legacy comes alive here. This stop is a must for fans of Japanese pop culture, as it provides fascinating insights into one of the industry’s most influential figures.
Continue to Meriken Park, where modern art and waterfront views make for a delightful stroll. Here, families can visit the Kobe Anpanman Children’s Museum & Mall, a colorful attraction dedicated to Anpanman, one of Japan’s most beloved children’s characters. Nearby, take a quick break to enjoy views of Kobe Port Tower and the striking architecture of the Kobe Maritime Museum.
This itinerary combines the playful spirit of Kobe with its cultural and natural highlights. From anime nostalgia to animal encounters and family-friendly parks, it’s a perfect mix of fun and exploration that ensures everyone has a memorable day in this port city.

We try to
We try to visit maritime museums whenever we are in a city/town that has one. We were pleased to learn the Kobe Maritime Museum is easy to get to, thanks to the hop-on-off City Lop Bus. Stop 16, Meriken Park.
The swirling white lattice of metal that surrounds the building outside represents the sea or perhaps sails. Either way, it's attractive. Dozens of intricate model ships are featured. A brochure tells you the museum is divided into two themes: 'The port of Kobe present and future', and 'The port of Kobe through History'. The sea, ships and port of yesterday, today and tomorrow are all recreated.
We saved a bit of money by paying 1,000 yen for a ticket that allowed entry into the Maritime Museum, Kawasaki Good Times Word - in the same building - and the Port Tower, metres away. Good value!
We spent about three hours in the area and recommend its attractions.
