[2025 Kanazawa Attraction] Travel Guide for Kazuemachi Chaya District (Updated Apr)
2.8
Kazuemachi Chaya District Address:
2-5 Kazuemachi, Kanazawa, Ishikawa 920-0908, Japan
A journey that brings history to a long-established inn
Kizuya Ryokan quietly sits in Kazuemachi Tea District.
We highly recommend this inn as a base for sightseeing in Kanazawa.
Not only is it in an excellent location, with famous tourist spots such as Higashi Chaya District, Omicho Market, and Kenrokuen Garden, as well as seafood markets, all within a few minutes' walk, but the inn itself is a long-established inn with history and tradition, so you can experience the feeling of having traveled back in time to old Japan while staying there☺️
It is located in Kazuemachi Tea District, so it is also recommended for those who want to stroll through the empty Kazuemachi Tea District in the early morning.
How about starting your day's sightseeing with a calm morning in the light that shines through the wooden lattice of the historic inn?
📍Address: 3-8 Kazuemachi, Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture 920-0908

[Ishikawa Prefecture] Kazuemachi Chaya District: A teahouse district where you can hear the murmuring of the Asano River
Kazuemachi Chaya District in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture
Alongside Higashi Chaya District and Nishi Chaya District, it is one of the three Kanazawa Chaya Districts and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Kanazawa. 👀
With narrow alleys and latticed windows, the area still retains a nostalgic, historic atmosphere, and has been designated as a nationally important preservation district for groups of traditional buildings. 🥸
Amid the charming streets along the Asano River, there are many traditional restaurants. It is lined with restaurants, Japanese-style restaurants, and teahouses, and is the smallest of the three teahouse districts,
so you can take a leisurely stroll in a calm atmosphere 🚶
*From Nakanohashi Bridge, which spans the nearby Asano River,
you can get a panoramic view of the Asano River and the Kanazawa cityscape with buildings lining both sides 📸

[Access 🚌]

[Ishikawa] We recommend taking a stroll late into the night! Enjoy the atmosphere in the dimly lit town houses.
2.5 hours by Shinkansen from Tokyo🚄
Kanazawa is a popular tourist spot throughout Japan
Even in Kanazawa, the most popular tourist spot is the townhouse district, where the atmosphere of Edo still remains to this day✨
The most popular townhouse district is Higashi Chaya District, but this time I will introduce "#Kazukemachi Chaya District", which is located just before the bridge you cross to get to Higashi Chaya District
Compared to Higashi Chaya District, this spot has a more stylish back alley!
Of course, it's good during the day, but what I would like to recommend is wandering around at night🌃
Don't you usually go around during the day, looking around and taking pictures and having fun? ?
But have you ever felt that there were too many people, or that you couldn't take the photos you wanted at all?
This problem is solved at night, when the town streets are lighted up by street lamps and shop lights, creating a more atmospheric and charming atmosphere✨
I took the photos after 11pm🕚
It was a Saturday, and although there weren't as many people as Higashi Chaya District, there were many people during the day😫
However, at this time of day, it was deserted, just as you can see in the photo!
You can take photos without people around, and you can enjoy the atmosphere at your own pace😄
So, Kazuemachi Chaya District is nice during the day, but Kazuemachi Chaya at night is also amazing!
Why not visit Higashi Chaya District after having dinner while sightseeing in Kanazawa?😆

Kazue-machi Chaya District/Kanazawa
While the Higashi Chaya District is the most well-known tourist spot in Kanazawa, the largest chaya district is actually Kazue-machi Chaya District. 🍃
Restored wooden chaya (teahouses), shops, accommodations, and restaurants from the 1800s line the streets. 🍄
It was a beautiful day, so just walking around felt refreshing. 🤍
Since the area spreads along the river, it has a sense of openness. 🕊️
With its calm and elegant atmosphere, I highly recommend visiting it along with the Higashi Chaya District. ✨

🤗🩷 During our amazing vacation, I had the opportunity to go on an exciting adventure to the lively city of Japan. With the arrival of spring, the whole place turned into a paradise, and we felt refreshed as we explored the famous Kazue-machi Chaya. Surrounded by the stunning scenery of this perfect sanctuary, we were mesmerized by the awe-inspiring views that greeted us at every corner, creating memories that will stay with us forever.
Kyoto is not the sole city in Japan boasting enchanting geisha districts. In Kanazawa, numerous impeccably maintained Meiji-era-style tea houses dating back to the late 1800s grace the Kazue-machi Chaya District, nestled between the Asanogawa and Nakano bridges. This historic geisha enclave exudes beauty throughout the year, yet truly shines during sakura season when the cherry blossoms along the Asano River are in full bloom.
This extraordinary and enchanting sanctuary has left an indelible mark in the deepest corners of my mind. The sheer joy of returning and savoring every moment in this unmatched haven is truly unparalleled. 🌸💮🏵 #historicallandmarks #mytravelhacks #localguides #familytrip #trip
