Just a 5-minute drive from Cape Hedo, the northernmost tip of Okinawa Main Island. Past the Ohayashi Stone Mountain, you'll find 'Kayauchi Banta.' In Okinawan dialect, 'Banta' means cliff. It's an 80-meter-high sheer cliff, and you can see the Ginama Fishing Port below 👀 The name comes from the fact that when bundled thatch is thrown off the cliff, it gets battered by the wind and scatters. The road that passes by Kayauchi Banta is called 'Modoru Michi' (Return Road). In the past, only one person could pass through this road, making it difficult to travel from the Ginama settlement to the Hedo settlement. However, the children of the Ginama settlement had to go to school in the Hedo settlement, climbing the 'Return Road.' Many children couldn't attend school because it was difficult to commute to Hokugoku Elementary School (formerly Hedo Elementary School), which has since been closed. About 100 years ago, the principal who was assigned to Hedo Elementary School noticed the low number of students attending and investigated the cause. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, I've been going to Okinawa once or twice a year. I felt like I could release the feelings of wanting to go abroad but not being able to. But this was January 2024. After watching a drama set in Hawaii, I couldn't help but want to go to the tropical island of Okinawa. I arrived at night, so I stayed at a hotel near the airport, and the next day I rented a car and headed north. The building was by no means new, but it was cute and spacious, so I was very satisfied. It was my first time in Okinawa and I was surprised, but apparently it can get cold in January. I wasn't worried because it was warm in Miyakojima last year. I enjoyed the bath and sauna to warm up my cold body, read a book, and had dinner. The roast beef was cut on the spot, and there was a wide variety, so it was impossible to eat it all. And the breakfast was also amazing in volume, variety, and taste. I thought it would be nice to go here with someone next time. Oh, of course I had some sweets. Well, the next day, contrary to the weather forecast, it was sunny!!! It was a little warmer and I felt refreshed. This place is located north of the Churaumi Aquarium. #okinawatrip Yanbaru National Park was one of the biggest reasons for us to visit the north part of Okinawa island. The park is amazing and we had a great time climbing the mountain area around the Yonaha mountain , the tallest mountain of the Okinawa main island. Little bit disappointing was that the top of the mountain doesn’t have any sign about reaching the absolute top and you can get easily confused whether you already climbed the top or not. Otherwise the place is so much fun and there are many things worth visiting in the National park other than Yonaha, for example famous waterfalls and others.

If you are in Okinawa, please make a trip down to Cape Hedo for the magnificent views, scenery and marvel at the beauty flower waves! Yes, it is a tad difficult to make a trip via public transport if you don't self drive in Okinawa but this is worth the effort to come by! Even though the day that I went happened to be gloomy but it didn't take away the beauty of this area at all. Instead I find that there's another form of beauty of this place against the gloomy skies. And because it was gloomy, the waves were strong, it was simply thereupeutic looking at the waves came crashing through the rocks over and over again.
