Although it is not as famous as its neighbor Kanazawa in Ishikawa Prefecture, the city faces Toyama Bay and is backed by the Tateyama Mountain Range. With its excellent location and comfortable atmosphere with fewer tourists, it is a great place for a city walk. Without the hustle and bustle of Tokyo or Osaka, the entire city is very laid-back. I would like to recommend a few spots for a city walk in Toyama City. The first recommended spot is the observation deck on the top floor of Toyama City Hall. This mini observation deck, located on the top floor of City Hall, offers a panoramic view of the Tateyama Mountain Range. In winter, the peaks of the Tateyama Mountains are covered with snow, making the whole view spectacular. You can also feel the direct impact of the city at the foot of the snowy mountains in winter. Directly below the observation deck is the site park of Toyama Castle. Although only a part of the ruins remains, you can still feel the grand scale of the castle in the past. Now it is mainly used as a park and is a good place for a stroll. Next, you can walk to the nearby streets and experience the Toyama Light Rail. As an important transportation system in Toyama City, the Toyama Light Rail has been operating for over a hundred years and is an indispensable part of the lives of Toyama citizens. There are still some old-fashioned trams with a strong last-century style running on the streets. Why not take a classic old tram, travel through Toyama City, and feel the collision of ancient and modern times? Take the tram through Toyama Station and head north to reach the famous Fugan Canal Kansui Park. This park was transformed from a part of the original Fugan Canal. The twin towers on the both side of the bridge used to be connected with the line that allow people to talk from each tower but it’s been removed now because of the Covid.Quiet, peaceful, and spacial park in a convenience location near the Toyama Art Museum and Station. Sport and leisure facilities are enclosed nearby, whereas the famous glass-built cafe shop Starsbuck is located adjacent to the canal of Kansui Park. You must not miss any chance staying for a relaxing day there.

With the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Kanazawa to Tsuruga, the Kansai-Kanto JR + Shinkansen tourist route can be realized. This time we started from Kyoto, took the JR Thunderbird Express to Tsuruga (all trains have reserved seats), and then transferred to the #Hokuriku Shinkansen to #Toyama. After arriving at the station, since it is the end of November, I went to #Fuyancanalhuanshuipark before it gets dark. There is a Starbucks in the park, which is known as the most beautiful in the world. You can stop by along the Tianmen Bridge. Visit #Toyama県 Museum of Art. It happened to be dark when we went back, and the lights in Huanshui Park were also on. After checking in at the hotel, we went directly to Toyama Station for dinner. There are different restaurants and souvenirs there, so you can simply browse around. The next morning, take the #あいの风とやま鉄道爱之风Toyama Railway, transfer to JR via Takaoka and go to Amamere Station. Both sections of the railway are included in the #Hokuriku Arch Railway Pass (the staff will ask you Going to that destination only involves changing to the JR line at Takaoka, so it seems like you have to pay if you only go to Takaoka). You can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Alps in the #Central Mountains National Park in #雨雨雨 coast. Then take a bus to #himi for a stroll, go to #himinae park to admire the coast of Toyama Bay, and then go to the #ひみkanbi market next to it to enjoy the Himi seafood produced in Toyama Bay. Finally, walk to Himi Station and take the JR back to Takaoka, then transfer to JR to Shin-Takaoka and take the Shinkansen to the next destination: Nagano. This time I tried the Hokuriku Shinkansen for the first time. I gave up the popular tourist destination Kanazawa and chose Toyama. I found that Toyama also has its own characteristics. There is also the #Toyama Cityガラス Museum (also a library) nearby which is worth a visit. I will try it next time. Spend more time exploring this comfortable city and try out a local glass course.

#thingstodo It’s a pretty modern sea side park near by Toyama station. It has a beautiful landscape with the big sky. The Starbucks coffee shop in this park is famous for its view. The twin towers on the both side of the bridge used to be connected with the line that allow people to talk from each tower but it’s been removed now because of the Covid. A beautiful open area park about 10 minutes walk away from Toyama Station.

#thingstodo A modern and beautiful urban park near Toyama Station. You can reach it with 5 minutes walking. It’s a very urban park, no Japanese garden, but museums nearby, large area for walking and for appreciating it’s architecture. There’s a Starbucks with a nice outside area where you can cave your coffee and relax. For bird watchers, they have a small structure for that. Lastly, they have 2 towers/building where you can see the park from above. It has elevator and it’s free (you can see the buildings from my photos). I’m not sure, but during our walk we couldn’t find a toilet there. Possibly we didn’t look very well for it.

Going here is purely to see the most beautiful Starbucks. Because the hotel is in the south exit, we are going from the outside of Toyama Station to the basement, and from the south to the north. (It looks like the ground is going to go around a big circle.) After coming from the elevator, go straight along the road for about 150. 200 meters, go to the left side of a small bridge, walk in. The park is small and has a beautiful bridge. Starbucks is located by the river, next to a row of cherry blossoms that have just opened. This is an all-glass building. The building itself looks very ordinary. It is just that the sky is clear. When there are clouds in the sky, especially during the cherry blossom season, the sky, clouds and cherry blossoms will reflect on the glass ceiling. Beautiful. If you come here, be sure to sit here and have a cup of coffee. The coffee here is almost one-third cheaper than domestic ones.
