Itinerary Overview The Southern Genyen Circuit in Western Sichuan takes about 6–8 days. We recommend driving yourself or chartering a car so you can have a flexible itinerary and stop to admire the roadside scenery at any time. Below is a classic 8-day itinerary: Chengdu - Kangding - Xinduqiao: Depart from Chengdu, pass through the Erlang Mountain Tunnel, and arrive in Kangding. Here, you can take a short break, experience the unique charm of this "City on the Move", and sample local specialties. Afterwards, cross Zheduo Mountain. The winding mountain road has eighteen bends and offers spectacular views. If you're lucky, you might even see a sea of clouds. Arrive in Xinduqiao in the late afternoon. Xinduqiao is a paradise for photography enthusiasts. The grasslands, streams, and Tibetan houses along the way create a picturesque landscape. The changing light and shadows at sunset are truly mesmerizing. Xinduqiao - Litang - Genyen Eye - Lenggu Monastery: Leave Xinduqiao and head to Litang. Litang is known as the "City in the Sky". Then in the evening, go to the old town of Liuliu City to stroll around. The Zheduo River is very beautiful. The night view is especially beautiful at night. The must-see attraction in Kangding is Mugecuo The next morning, get up at nine o'clock, have breakfast, and take a bus to Mugecuo, which takes about 30 minutes. When you arrive at Mugecuo, you can take a sightseeing bus to Mugecuo Holy Lake first, and then you can choose to walk down the mountain on the plank road. If you see a sightseeing bus on the road, you can wave it and it will stop at any time. You can get on and off as you like. It is very convenient. It takes about 2-5 hours to walk down the mountain from Mugecuo Holy Lake. The scenery along the way is charming, and every place can form a beautiful picture. When you get to the holy lake, you can choose to take a boat to the other side or ride a horse, but I personally don’t think it’s very interesting. Some of them are old residential areas, so the environment is not very good and you have to climb stairs. If you drive yourself, you can stay in the new town. Or you can look around and find a place around 200 which is a bit better. Then there is the barley pancake in Kangding. If you are going to drive to western Sichuan the next day, you can buy one or two and eat them on the way. The whole town is run through by the Zheduo River, and various ethnic-style buildings are scattered on both sides of the river... You can always hear the melodious singing in your ears and see the local residents singing and dancing in front of you. The ethnic customs of the plateau are really perfectly restored here! Overall, the environment is good, but the prices are a bit high. Three days and two nights, countless trips to Western Sichuan, this is the first time I only stayed in Kangding. Mainly because it snowed heavily under Zheduo Mountain on the day of arrival, the road conditions were bad, and safety was the priority. During the three days in Kangding, only the second day was without rain, so, everything is up to fate. In Western Sichuan travel, weather definitely comes first, as long as the weather is good, beauty is everywhere. If the weather is bad, the scenery will be greatly discounted.

Kangding is a county level city that is 8,400 feet ( 2560 m) above sea level. It is located at the seat of Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuna, China. It is the home of Han Chinese, Tibetans and other minorities. Getting There - From Chengdu you can either take a bus or by plane. Buses to Kangding leave from Xinnamen Bus Station. The journey takes you about 5-8 hours deoending on traffic. If you are going during holiday than it is carzy traffic. It took us 14 hours. That's how busy the roads are to Kangding. Food & Restaurants - Food here is amazing. Tibetan and Chinese food are around and even some western food but not a lot of options.
