Also known as "Kamo Berei Shrine", one of the oldest shrines in Kyoto, it is said to have been founded in 678 AD. As the venue of the "Aoi Festival" with a long history of 1,300 years, you can feel the depth of this history. "Aoi Matsuri" is one of the three major festivals in Kyoto. It is held in May every year. The parade of people dressed in gorgeous costumes of the Heian Dynasty is the more exciting part. In the open courtyard full of greenery, the calm river flows slowly among the ancient trees, and walking on the pedestrian street along the river is very relaxing. At the end of the river, a gate painted in bright vermilion was erected, allowing visitors to feast their eyes.
