Kakegawa Castle 🏯 in Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture, was built by the Asahina clan, a vassal of the Imagawa clan, and during the Sengoku period, Yamauchi Kazutoyo took over and extensively remodeled the castle. The beautiful castle, known as the "Famous Castle of the Tokaido Region," was lost in a major earthquake in 1854, but was restored in 1994 as Japan's first "full-scale wooden castle tower," and remains in its original form to this day. It is the first fully restored wooden castle tower in the country, and the inside is apparently the same as the existing one. It was early on a weekday, so there were hardly any tourists. Kakegawa Castle was built by Hideyoshi's vassal Yamauchi Kazutoyo, who also starred in a historical drama, and is known as the "famous castle of the Tokai region." You can go up to the castle tower, and on a clear day you can see Mt. Fuji. And when I went up there, I could see it! You can't go out onto the outer corridor of the castle tower, so I took this photo from inside. Sitting in a comfortable tatami room, the moment the tea ceremony began, I was enveloped in a unique silence and beauty. The carefully prepared matcha had a rich, deep flavor. The Japanese sweets were also made with care and looked beautiful, and when I put them in my mouth, I was enveloped in a warm and happy feeling. I could feel the skill and consideration of the person who made the tea, and it was such a luxurious moment that I lost track of time. The tea ceremony in the teahouse, while touching on the history and culture of Kakegawa Castle, was a luxurious experience that refreshed both body and mind.
