It’s the site closest to Beijing, but many travelers and tour buses pass it by in favor of seeing the Great Wall at Badaling. The pass is circular and less than 5 km (3 miles) long so you can walk around it in a day. To get to Juyongguan from Beijing is quite simple by public transport; all you need to do is take subway line 13 to Longze Station and hop on board the 68 shuttle bus that will take you directly there. We arrived in Beijing on Sunday and chose Sete as our hotel, which has family suites and a swimming pool. Then we went straight to Yihe Yayuan Roast Duck Restaurant in Guomao store to eat roast duck. All the major museums in the city were closed on Monday, so we chose Juyongguan, which is relatively close. Juyongguan Great Wall has two paths to choose from. We chose the shorter path, which takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour to walk. Initially, we thought the stairs wouldn't be as steep as the other side, but they were actually very steep, almost like climbing. It was quite exhausting. We went before noon, and the sun was very strong. While other days in Beijing were mostly cloudy, today was very sunny. Although it was a bit hot, it was great for taking photos. 😆 When we reached the other side, we found that the descent was easier than the climb up. The steps were thicker than those we climbed up. This pass isn't as grand as Badaling, but it takes less time to walk. If you have time, you can come and try climbing it. 😝 P.S. A friend told me that this pass is lit up at night, so you can come at night for beautiful photos.

It has been recorded since the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period and is one of China's nine major passes. It was officially incorporated into the Great Wall's construction system during the Northern Wei Dynasty, becoming an important military fortress in the northwest of Beijing. Walking along the beacon tower ruins on the Great Wall, I could almost feel the determination and courage of the soldiers who guarded the frontier back then. Moreover, I was also impressed by the restoration work of the Great Wall. Watching the workers restore the crumbling wall brick by brick, I couldn't help but pay my respects to their hard work. Thinking about the craftsmen who built the Great Wall back then, they must have also put in unimaginable effort and sweat. Overall, this personal visit to the Juyongguan Great Wall gave me a deeper understanding and appreciation of China's long history and culture.
