It's affiliation with Taoism is historic and can be seen it it's many well-preserved pagodas, gates, stupas, temples, statues, as well as the surrounding scenic beauty. The whole area is set against majestic mountain faces and peaks, adjacent to the ocean below, providing a stunning contrast-especially if you climb up to the top! There are many places to buy a souvenir or a snack here, or even a namesake cold Laoshan beer! I recommend watching the monks walk around and performing their religion duties at the various temples whilst breathing in the scented smell of the fragrances they burn outside. Getting here is relatively simple from downtown Qingdao; taxi, private car or bus are the easiest ways to get to the main entrance, taking about 30 minutes. Once there you will need to buy tickets and board another tourist bus up the mountain to the steps anyway, driving along the picturesque costal road. You can do this place in half a day. I suggest doing it in Spring or Summer in the late afternoon, as you can witness the sunset over the ocean. These time estimates are based on people with good physical strength. If your physical strength is not very good and you like taking photos, the cable car + Xunmen route can take up to 5 hours. My physical strength is not bad, but I still found the Giant Peak very tiring. The round-trip ticket for tourists aged 60 and above is RMB 20. Even on the Laoshan Jufeng cableway, the one-way fare for the elderly is 20 yuan. After getting off the cable car, climb straight up to the highest Lingqi Peak. Then take the cable car for 20 yuan back to Dahedong.
