Autumn chrysanthemum festival at this temple
#fallingforfall
Autumn colours of Seoul include the colourful chrysanthemum that decorated Jogyesa Temple in Jongno, Seoul. It was a 10 minute walk from our Fraser Suites Hotel in Insadong.
How to get here: via Jonggak Station, Subway line 1, exit 3. It would be easy to stop by after a tour of the Gyeongbokgung Palace.
Huge floral displays using various colors of chrysanthemums decorated the temple grounds. Jogyesa Temple is the chief temple of modern Korean Buddhism and people go there to pray. As visitors, it was interesting to see the beautiful architecture, temple areas and the special display of flowers and bonsai.
The Chrysanthemum festival is held every year for about a month. Nearby, the shops sold a variety of comfortable pajamas, calendars, tea ware, and Buddhist art.

The Jogyesa Temple (the center of Korean Buddhism) is the main and the head temple of the Jogye order, in Seoul. Built in the 14th century, it opens its doors for visitors all year round (located two blocks away from Jonggak Station). Celebrations for Buddha’s Birthday together with the annual lantern festival are held in this temple.
If you visit Korea during April/May, you could join this celebration practically at any Buddhist Temple in the country.

Serene Buddhist Temple in Seoul
#100WaysOfTravel means visiting a temple to pay respect and send prayers when you are overseas. #jogyesa temple is located in Insadong where it provides serene and tranquility in the busy Seoul downtown. Highly recommended to visit this main Korean Buddhist site. It is near to the palaces and of course walking distance from Myeongdong too. Be respectful as you witness locals praying and meditating in temple. #temple

Jogyesa Temple's Timeless Charm
#koreatrip
I stumbled upon Jogyesa Temple while exploring Seoul, and it left an indelible mark on my soul. This ancient sanctuary's elegant architecture, vibrant lanterns, and serene gardens transported me to a bygone era. The soft murmur of monks' prayers and gentle breeze rustling through trees created a hypnotic ambiance. As I participated in a traditional tea ceremony, I felt a profound sense of peace. Jogyesa Temple's beauty and spiritual energy make it an essential destination for those seeking enlightenment, tranquility, or simply a moment's solace.

Jogyesa Temple
Jogyesa Temple (조계사) is the head temple of the Jogye sect, the largest sect of Korean Buddhism. Located in the heart of Seoul, precisely in the Jongno-gu area, this temple is not only a center of religious activities, but also one of the popular tourist destinations in the city. Jogyesa Temple is known for its beautiful traditional Korean architecture, including its main building, the Daeungjeon (Great Hall), which is the main place of worship. The Daeungjeon features a large Buddha statue and is often used for religious ceremonies. The building is decorated with bright colors, intricate carvings, and traditional paintings. In the temple grounds, there is an old pine tree estimated to be over 500 years old, which adds to the peaceful and solemn atmosphere of the temple. Jogyesa Temple is active in various religious and cultural activities. Every year, the temple is the center of the Lotus Lantern Festival (Yeon Deung Hoe), which is one of the largest Buddhist celebrations in Korea. The festival features a parade of colorful lanterns that decorate the streets of Seoul. In addition, the temple also offers a Temple Stay program, where visitors can experience monastic life for a while, learn meditation, and participate in religious ceremonies. Jogyesa Temple is very easy to access because of its location in the center of Seoul. The temple is close to many other historical sites, such as Gyeongbokgung Palace and Bukchon Hanok Village, so it is often part of the itinerary of tourists visiting Seoul. Jogyesa Temple is not only a place of worship, but also an important symbol of the revival and spread of Buddhism in Korea.

Seoul Lantern Festival | So, in Korea, every festival eventually turns into a big party
Every year, the 8th day of the 4th lunar month (which falls on May 15th this year in the Gregorian calendar) is Buddha's Birthday. Lantern lighting celebrations are held throughout Korea.
Although it was originally a Buddhist festival, it has now become a day of joy for everyone: various cultural activities during the day, and at night, colorful lantern parades and song and dance parties, making it a lively and festive celebration.😄
I happened to be in Korea during the Lantern Festival on a previous trip. So, during the day, there were all sorts of martial arts and music performances, and you could even make your own lantern🏮
As evening approached, the lantern procession began its march through the streets.
Exquisitely crafted lanterns of the Four Heavenly Kings, lions, tigers, dragons, elephants, as well as girls and grandmothers in traditional costumes, song and dance instruments, children and monks, all carrying small lanterns, singing and dancing with joy❤️
Finally, we arrived at the main stage, where everyone sang, played instruments, clapped, and partied together, turning it into a big party where locals and tourists happily participated. It was a little surprise during my trip to Korea.
After participating in various festivals at home and abroad, my biggest takeaway is that festivals are about harboring good intentions, relaxing, sharing joy, and offering love and sincere blessings🙏

Jogyesa Temple
#seoul
Jogyesa Temple is a renowned Buddhist temple located in the heart of Seoul, South Korea. It is quite a peculiar structure when I first encountered it, it must have been the first or only temple that we have seen in our entire trip in korea that had a signboard in Chinese characters which attracted me to go in.
Beyond just the buddha statues and the twelfth zodiacs of the Chinese horoscope, what captured my eyes first is the vibrant flowers that are spread around the garden, this temple that is surrounded by the busy streets of seoul really makes you feel at peace and relaxed no matter how busy the outside of the temple is.
