Touring Jining, appreciating the ancient and pure Islamic scenic spot - Jining East Grand Mosque
Jining East Grand Mosque, a classical Islamic architectural structure, is located in Nanguan, Jining, adjacent to the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.
The earliest recorded construction time of Jining East Grand Mosque is in the early Ming Dynasty, more than 600 years ago. By the Qing Dynasty's Tongzhi period, it was relocated here with the funding of the local Muslim community leader, built along the river, and named 'Shunhe Islamic East Grand Mosque'. It is comparable to Jining West Grand Mosque, Nanjing Jingjue Mosque, Xi'an Huajue Mosque, and Lanzhou Qiaomen Street Grand Mosque, and is known as one of the five major ancient Islamic mosques in China.
Typical mosques have iconic minarets and traditional Islamic architectural decoration styles, which are very recognizable. After Islamic religious culture was integrated into the Han area, it blended with it to reflect a compromise of the two cultures. It looks like a Buddhist temple, but it is a famous mosque, which was known as 'the crown of Islamic mosques in the north and south' during the Qing Dynasty.
The main architecture of Jining East Grand Mosque is a layout style of densely stacked summer houses. The first gate is a wooden fence style, behind which stands a stone archway. The reliefs on it include lions, sheep, unicorns, landscapes, and flowers, etc. The large and small eaves are full of scrolls, named 'Sun and Moon Arch'; the second gate is a double-eave dome, with hanging columns under the eaves, named 'Bangke Building', all the buildings are quite magnificent.
