Preparation
- ID: Bring your ID card and other valid ID.

Transportation
- External transportation: First, get to Shangri-La or Gongshan County in Nujiang Prefecture, then choose a suitable mode of transportation to Peacock Mountain. From Shangri-La, you can take a bus, carpool, charter a car, or drive to Deqin County, then take the Deqin-Gongshan Highway to Peacock Mountain. From Gongshan, you can navigate to the Peacock Mountain Tunnel and turn right onto the path before the tunnel entrance.
- Internal transportation: After arriving near Peacock Mountain, you need to park your car at the pass parking lot and hike the rest of the way.
Attractions
- Tianxing Twelve Lakes: Hike along the path next to the prayer flags from the Peacock Mountain pass to see several shimmering small lakes. On sunny days, the lakes reflect the jagged mountains, like a real-life Zelda.
- Alpine Rhododendron Forest: Continue up the mountain along the path by the lake and pass through the alpine rhododendron forest to overlook the full view of the Tianxing Twelve Lakes and see Biluo Snow Mountain and Gaoligong Mountain in the distance.
- Snow Mountain Scenery: On the top of Peacock Mountain or along the hiking trail, you can enjoy the magnificent scenery of Kawagebo Peak and other snow-capped mountains. In winter, the snow-capped mountains are even more spectacular.
Hiking routes
- Easy route: 2 km round trip, return after reaching the three lakes. There is a short climb before reaching the lakes, and the path is mostly flat after reaching the lakes. This route is suitable for families with children or visitors with less stamina.
- Challenging route: 5 km round trip, return after reaching the summit. The view is more open at the summit, and you can see Kawagebo Peak in the distance. The climb is about 400 meters, with several small slopes. This route is suitable for people who exercise regularly and often hike.
Accommodation and food
- Accommodation: You can stay in hotels or inns in Deqin County or Gongshan County, or experience Tibetan-style accommodation in a local Tibetan home.
- Food: Try Tibetan food such as butter tea, tsampa, and yak meat, as well as local specialties such as Nujiang fish.
