The century-old mining nostalgic railway full of historical atmosphere is the last stop of the Taiwan Railway Pingxi Line. The observation deck cafe next to the station constantly emits beautiful piano music, adding a lot of atmosphere to this mountain city area.
The renovated station and the old street are a perfect match for a slow-paced sightseeing trip. Compared to Shifen, this place is more recommended. The old street is not as lively as Shifen and Pingxi, but it has a unique elegance of being sparsely populated and quiet! You can enjoy fireflies at night in May.

Train trip near Taipei, Jingtong Old Street
When I went to Jiufen and Shifen, I went on a free tour without a travel agency.
So my first stop was Jingtong Old Street.
Unlike Jiufen and Shifen, there weren't many people here, and it was a quiet neighborhood. I was able to leisurely explore the old streets.
This is a village famous for bamboo.
So many people write their wishes on bamboo and hang them all over the village.
I did it too, and it costs 50 Taiwan dollars.
It's not that expensive, so I can say that it's a must-do if you come to Jingtong Old Street.
And you can walk around the village.
If you walk along the train tracks, you'll soon arrive at the entrance.
That's how small the village is.
When you're done looking around the village, you can take a train from here to Shifen.
In my experience, it's not a must-visit place, but if you go on a free tour to Shiufen and Shifen, stop by~~

Taipei Tour|One-day Mine Nostalgia Tour|Jingtong Station×Railway Story Museum×Pingxi Business District 🚂
#Taipei Itinerary
Walking through Jingtong Station, the terminus of the Taiwan Railway Pingxi Line, the wooden station and old-style platforms instantly bring you back to the coal mining days of the 1920s. This was once a prosperous mining town. Today, the remains of the coal preparation plant are still preserved beside the railway tracks, and vines are climbing all over the red brick walls, bearing witness to the rise and fall of the black gold era.
The must-visit Jingtong Railway Story Museum was converted from an old warehouse. The museum displays miners' headlamps, old photos and other cultural relics. You can also experience a simulated mine car tunnel and feel the daily life of the miners back then. The wishing bamboo tube hanging in front of the station sways in the wind, making crisp sounds, becoming the most distinctive scenery.
In the afternoon, take a small train to Pingxi business district and walk through the old streets full of sky lanterns. The red brick buildings and nostalgic grocery stores outline the unique slow-paced atmosphere of the mountain city. Don’t miss the Japanese-style old house cafe hidden in the alleys and sip a cup of time next to the coal mine tracks☕.

The sound of bells ringing from the wooden station building beside the railway tracks seems to call travelers back to the coal mining heyday of the 1920s. Jingtong Old Street, the terminus of the Pingxi Line, retains the most complete mining settlement style in Taiwan. On the mottled red brick walls of the "Shidi Coal Mine Preparation and Washing Plant", vines are gently covering the industrial scars of the past.
Strolling along the streets lined with bamboo tubes for blessing, there is a faint scent of charcoal in the air. Entering the "Jingtong Mining Life Museum", the miners' equipment and yellowed salary bags from the black gold era tell the difficult years of "mining black gold". The cultural and creative shops converted from the Japanese-style dormitories next to the railway are now filled with the aroma of coffee and the laughter of young people.

Taipei Jingtong. We walk along the pretty streets and write our wishes on bamboo tubes. It is convenient to come by taxi tour.
Jingtong is also famous as a filming location for the movie “Girl We Loved” back then.
It got its name because there were many wild paulownia trees, but now, the bamboos hung on the trees to write our wishes are more famous than the paulownia trees.

#Pingxi #Pingxi Sky Lantern #Shifen Waterfall #Jingtong Train Station #Jingtong Sky Lantern
If you want to fly sky lanterns, you don’t have to go to Pingxi Station because there are too many people! Take the last stop of the Pingxi Line, Jingtong, and you can also go to Jingtong Old Street. I personally think that Jingtong Station has a particularly retro feel, the wooden buildings are very impressive, and the three mailboxes in the Hualulu store are very cute! Taking photos of the station at dusk gives you a nostalgic feeling~
Just a reminder, if you want a seat on the return trip, you must get on the bus at Jingtong, otherwise if you get on at other stations it will be too crowded!
There is a colorful painting at the entrance of Zhengda Restaurant in Shifen Waterfall, which is quite cute~
By the way, I saw a box of Japanese takoyaki balls sold for 100 yuan in Pingxi Old Street! The prices are so shocking. I wonder if only foreigners would buy these? !

Discovering the Quiet Charm of Jingtong, Taiwan’s Forgotten Treasure
#favouriteitinerary #travelanywhere
One of the most unforgettable experiences in our Taiwan itinerary was traveling to Jingtong Station, the final stop on the Pingxi Railway Line. Leaving behind the lively crowds of Shifen, we boarded the train and watched as the scenery gradually shifted to a more serene and picturesque setting.
As soon as we stepped off the train, we were greeted by the sight of Jingtong Station, an elegant wooden railway stop with a distinct Japanese architectural influence, originally built in 1929. Recognized as a heritage landmark in 2003, this station played a significant role in Taiwan’s coal mining history. Just across from it stood the remains of an old coal processing plant, a fascinating relic from the industry’s heyday.
Compared to the bustling energy of Shifen and Pingxi, Jingtong had a quiet, almost nostalgic atmosphere. We strolled along the quaint old street, where a handful of local vendors offered refreshing ice cream and traditional street snacks. Enjoying a cool treat while soaking in the tranquil charm of this historic town made for a truly special and relaxing experience.

Jingtong Station after the epidemic - Jingtong Old Street
#JanuaryGoodPlaces2025
Jingtong Station is a Japanese-style wooden station and the terminus of the Pingxi train line. I arrived at Jingtong Station at around four o'clock that day. The old street was deserted and most of the shops were closed. We found a shop that was still open to release sky lanterns. After chatting with the store owner, I learned that this place has become sparsely populated since the epidemic. In the past, many newlyweds would choose to take wedding photos here, but in recent years, they have to apply for it, which has led to a significant decrease in the number of people coming to take wedding photos. Since most tourists choose to go to Shifen, Jingtong’s stores simply close early.
If you want to fly sky lanterns and take a slow life, I highly recommend going to Jingtong to take beautiful photos of sky lanterns without too many tourists in the background.

A nostalgic journey to Jingtong Station 🚉✨
#Taipei Attractions
The moment I stepped into Jingtong Station, I was instantly attracted by this old station full of nostalgic atmosphere. This Japanese-style wooden station, built in 1929, stands quietly at the last stop of the Pingxi Line. It is surrounded by ancient streets and fresh mountain scenery. It seems as if time has stopped here, making people unconsciously slow down and savor it. When I walked into the station, the sound of the train in my ears reminded me of my youth, and I couldn't help feeling a lot of emotions.
The area around Jingtong Station is a place full of stories. Walking along the old street, the small shops everywhere exude a strong traditional atmosphere. I couldn’t help but walk into a stall selling chicken rolls. The aroma was so fragrant that my mouth was watering. Sitting in the cafe converted from a coal washing plant, sipping the fragrant coffee, looking out through the window, and seeing tourists taking photos, my heart is filled with happiness. Every corner here reminds me of the past, those happy memories of traveling with friends, which make me miss it endlessly.
In terms of transportation, I chose to take the train in Taipei city, swaying all the way along the Pingxi Line. I was intoxicated by the beautiful scenery along the way. Jingtong Station is open all year round, and you can feel its charm no matter when you visit. Why not plan a trip to New Taipei and make this ancient and beautiful place a must-stop on your trip.
Here, I not only saw traces of history, but also felt the connection between people. Every traveler who comes to Jingtong is an indispensable part of this journey. Every moment here fills my heart with emotion. What’s amazing is that both the scenery and the people are so beautiful. I hope everyone can find their own story at Jingtong Station and leave an unforgettable memory. 🌟

A Christmas Journey to Jingtong: A Bridge of Wishes
#magicalxmastrip
This Christmas, I found myself in the charming town of Jingtong, Taiwan, where history, nature, and cultural traditions blend seamlessly to create an unforgettable experience. Nestled amidst lush greenery, Jingtong offers a unique escape from the holiday rush, making it a perfect addition to my #MagicalXmasTrip.
The highlight of my visit was exploring the picturesque Wish Bamboo Forest. The hanging bamboo pieces, adorned with heartfelt wishes and dreams, swayed gently in the cool breeze. It was humbling to read the messages, imagining the hopes of countless visitors who left a piece of their hearts here.
Crossing the iconic Red Bridge, I couldn’t help but marvel at the tranquil river below, surrounded by dense vegetation. The bridge, with its vibrant color and rustic charm, felt like a gateway to another world. Many visitors tie wish bamboo here, adding to the magical ambiance.
Adding a touch of history to the journey, I came across a nostalgic display narrating the story of Jingtong’s cultural significance. Walking through the serene paths surrounded by misty hills was like stepping into a Christmas postcard.
If you’re seeking a peaceful yet meaningful getaway this Christmas, Jingtong is the perfect destination. Let the whispers of nature and the echoes of wishes guide your festive spirit.

Take the Taiwanese local railway to a station that existed during the Japanese colonial period.
It takes about 2 hours to transfer from Taipei Station.
There is Jingtong Station, the starting point of the local Pingxi Line.
It is one of the four remaining wooden station buildings in Taiwan.
When you get off, you will feel a sense of nostalgia.
It opened in 1929 during Japanese rule, and it has remained like this for about 95 years, so I am truly grateful to know that the people of Taiwan have continued to use it with care🙏
If you are looking for something different on your trip to Taipei, I recommend you to go there🚃

Jingtong Old Street.
A great place to visit in September 2024
This small old street is clean and known for its sky lantern activities. There are two sky lantern shops on both sides of the street. Personally, I prefer the one near the Police Sky Lantern Museum. The owner is very patient and allows customers to draw for a long time. The lanterns released here fly high and far.
Next to it is the Red Treasure Miner Canteen, where the pork chop rice has a traditional taste and is quite filling. Kids who enjoy eating with cats will probably like it there.
The tracks at the Red Treasure Miner Canteen are safe for releasing sky lanterns and taking photos with the incoming train.
Next to the old street, there is an exhibition space about the history of the old Jingtong Mine. Walking along the path by the railway towards the hillside, you can visit the old site of the Shidi Inclined Shaft.

Cultural nostalgia tour "Jingtong Old Street"
#Literary Traveler
Jingtong Station is located in Pingxi District, New Taipei City, and is the terminus of the Pingxi Line of Taiwan Railways. The station was built in 1929 and was declared a historic site by the Taipei County Government's Cultural Affairs Bureau (later upgraded to the New Taipei City Government's Cultural Affairs Bureau) on May 1, 2003.
Although Jingtong District is very small, it has a cultural atmosphere and exudes a strong nostalgic beauty everywhere. It has not only become a filming location for advertisements and movies, but also attracts many domestic and foreign travelers to come and take photos.

Historic Japanese District Near Jingtong Station, Pingxi Line
The Japanese-style dormitory complex located in Jingtong Street, Pingxi District, New Taipei City, was built continuously by the Taiyang Mining Company from 1925 to 1940, and was mainly used as accommodation for the company's senior executives and their families.
There are a total of 17 dormitories, and the architectural style is Japanese wooden construction, centered around black tiles and white walls, using high-quality timbers such as hinoki and fir, embodying the typical characteristics of Japanese architecture.
The dormitory group is situated in a serene environment surrounded by mountains and rivers on the Keelung River, maintaining many details of Japanese architecture such as sliding doors, tatami mats, and cypress doors and windows, allowing visitors to feel as if they are in Japan. They are on the streets of Japan.

Jingtong Station… The final stop of the Pingxi Line… Taiwan
#Overseas travel #Taiwan #Jingtong Station
It's a quiet, small station with a strong sense of humanity. The owner of the noodle shop in front of the door saw us taking pictures and offered to take a group photo.
She also chatted with us and greeted us warmly. After passing through the short old street, you'll find Jingtong Sky Lantern House. , (the bathroom is very clean)
You can also take pictures of the mine train.
You can also visit the filming site of the railway idol drama that brings back memories of a 100-year-old mine full of historical atmosphere.
Since most of them only go to Pingxi Station, you can walk much more quietly. However, since there are no people, there may seem to be a lack of shopping and entertainment. The doors also close early.

The tranquility of Jing Tong Old Street
#2024wish
Little does many people know about this small little neighbourhood of Jing Tong old street, and I personally much prefer this old street rather than the heavily commercialized and touristy Shifen Old Street. Jing Tong Old Street still preserves its peace and tranquility, due to the fact that this location is located out of the tourist spot. There is a railway station which is the last station of Pingxi railway line. This town's economy used to rely on coal mining but was stopped in 1980s due to safety issues and drop in coal prices. Today, this town serves as a tranquil tourist spot, as the name of the town implies, very blissful (十分幸福).
In 2024, I wish to travel to Taipei again.
