Historic buildings
The Temple of the Sea God is also known as the "Temple Palace". It was built in the eighth year of the Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty at a cost of 100,000 taels of silver. Its structure imitates the Hall of Supreme Harmony in the Forbidden City, so it is known as the "Silver Palace". It is a rare classical palace-style building in Jiangnan. It was once destroyed by war and rebuilt in the eleventh year of the Guangxu reign. Only the Qingcheng Bridge, the main gate, the main hall, the stone archway, the stone lions, the imperial stele pavilion, etc. are preserved. The Temple of the Sea God covers an area of 40 mu, with a large scale and rigorous architectural layout. The main buildings are distributed on three axes, with the main axes including Qingcheng Bridge, Yimen, Gate, Main Hall, Imperial Stele Pavilion and Sleeping Hall. There is a white marble archway on both sides of the square in front of the Yimen. The main hall is a five-bay hip roof building with a white marble base at the bottom. The left and right side halls are dedicated to the gods of tide and water from past dynasties. The left axis is the Tianhou Palace; the right axis is the Fengshen Temple, Narcissus Pavilion, etc. In the 11th year of Emperor Xianfeng, some buildings were destroyed by war and were rebuilt in the 11th year of Emperor Guangxu. The Qingcheng Bridge, Yimen, Main Hall, White Marble Archway, Imperial Stele, etc. are still preserved.
