Visit Jiantan Mountain Trail
Jiantan Mountain, with an elevation of 153 meters, is located in the Yuanshan Scenic Area of Shilin District, Taipei City. It is the northern ridge behind the Grand Hotel and the closest small mountain to the city center in Taipei. Walking along the ridge trail, you can reach other mountains with ease, making it a convenient and leisurely hike.
This area was once a military control zone and a protected forest, so the natural forest and ecological plants are well-preserved. The trail is lined with many artificially planted vegetation and economic plants, giving it a lush green charm.
Entering from Jiantan Park, it takes only half an hour to reach the Breeze Viewing Platform (photos 5-7), where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Keelung River, Tamsui River, Taipei Basin, Taipei 101, and the Grand Hotel.
Another viewing platform, the North Eye Platform (photos 1, 8, 10, 11), completed in early 2023, features a white spherical design with an infinity edge. It offers a wide view and a unique design, coincidentally facing the spherical Taipei Performing Arts Center (photo 11).
Standing on the white extension of the North Eye Platform, you can overlook the entire Taipei city center, gaze at the Tamsui River, Keelung River, and the distant Guanyin Mountain and Datun Mountain. The "most beautiful landmark in Shilin," the Taipei Performing Arts Center, is also in full view, making it a popular spot for photos on the Jiantan Mountain Trail.
By MRT: Jiantan Mountain is located at the trailhead on Section 4, Zhongshan North Road, next to Jiantan Park, with the Grand Hotel behind it (photo 16).
