Jeonju Hyanggyo is located in Gyodong, Wansan District, Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do. According to legend, Jeonju Hyanggyo was built in the late Goryeo period and was located near the present Gyeonggijeon. In the Joseon Dynasty, Gyeonggijeon was built to house the portrait of Taejo Lee Sung-gyeom. In 1410, the Heunggyo was very noisy because of the noise before the game, so it was moved to the current volcano cave under the Hwanghwa Terrace in 6 or 7-ri in the west of Jeonju.

Jeonju Hyanggyo, Confucian school
In Jeonju Hanok Village there lies a village school (Hyanggyo, 향교) where scholars living nearby receives their education here. This school was built in the 15th century, destroyed during Japanese invasion, then rebuilt again. Similar to other Confucian academy, the mai building is named Daesungjeon, meaning hall of great success, houses the tablets of Confucius and his notable disciples. At the back of the of the hall is Myeongryuntang, means to understand the proper way, is the hall where teaching occurs. There is a gingko tree planted more than 400 years ago, which is a symbol of purity and strong, as gingko trees never invite any pests.

Jeonju Hyanggyo: A Serene Stroll Among Ginkgo Trees
Jeonju Hyanggyo, located near the jeonju hanok village, is renowned for its stunning ginkgo trees and peaceful ambiance—ideal for a leisurely stroll.
When we visited, the ginkgo leaves were still vibrant green, but the warm sunlight made for beautiful photos and a delightful day out. It was a wonderful way to reconnect in such a tranquil setting!
