We aimed for a slightly early dinner time, but there were about 4 groups ahead of us. By the time we left, the line had grown even longer.
🍣About the restaurantIzuu, located in Gion Kiridoshi, Kyoto, is a Kyoto sushi specialty restaurant founded in 1781. For over 250 years, the signature dish, the famous mackerel sushi, has been loved by Kyoto residents. In the past, fresh fish was a delicacy for the townspeople of Kyoto, who lived far from the sea, and mackerel sushi is still loved in Kyoto as a dish to celebrate special occasions. It was Izuu who popularized mackerel sushi.

🍣The menu we ordered this time
・Mackerel sushi ¥2,640-
The mackerel is fatty mackerel from the sea near Japan. The rice is Ezu rice from Shiga Prefecture. The kelp that wraps the entire sushi is from Hokkaido.
. Peel off the kelp that wraps the sushi. The thick mackerel, which has plenty of fat and allows you to enjoy its original flavor, is so elegant and delicious that it melts in your mouth. Of course, it goes perfectly with the vinegared rice.
It was my first time to encounter such thick mackerel, and I was impressed by its deliciousness, which I had never tasted before.
There are two stores: the main store in Gion and the one on the basement floor of Daimaru Kyoto. Many people not only eat in the store, but also take it out as a souvenir or to put in an ekiben (boxed lunch box)☺️. Izu's mackerel sushi is also recommended as a treat for the New Year holidays. It is an exquisite Kyoto gourmet that you should try at least once.
