The mosque is right across from the cathedral, and when I went there, it happened to be Christmas, and a bunch of people were having mass, and even a lot of police were deployed. You need to take off your shoes to enter the mosque, and you can put them in any inconspicuous corner, and they will never be lost 😋😂, and taking pictures is allowed, so you can take pictures with confidence.

It's open to foreigners at 4 pm, but you can explore freely earlier. Just like other mosques, remember to take off your shoes. Inside, you'll find people praying or taking photos, creating a sense of freedom and equality. The modern interior is uniquely designed, with a stainless steel dome that resembles a celestial eye. The metal pillars reflect light beautifully, giving a futuristic vibe. From the outdoor atrium, you can see the Independence Monument and Jakarta Cathedral, symbolizing harmonious coexistence of different religions.

Istiklal Mosque is one of the largest mosques in the world. The mosque offered a guided tour for tourist every 30 minutes. Incoming tourist are guided to a waiting room, in which you side up for tour service (provides basic information, such as family name, country of origin, etc.). The information is not checked. During the guided tour of the Mosque, you will be asked to remove your shoes before entering the mosque. A bag is provided to carry your shoes. You are also provided with Hajib, though it seems to be optional during the visit. The guided tour takes a quick walk around the Mosque, which has 5 floors and may accommodate up to 120,000 people. Though during our visit, it doesn’t seem to be anywhere near at capacity (we visited during the Night Journey of the Prophet Muhammad SAW day). You can take pictures within the Mosque. The entire tour take about 0.5 hour.

When you are in Jakarta visit this place. It is huge and there is a separate registration for foreigners. They also provide cloaks if one is wearing shorts. Entrance is free however the tourist desk would ask for some voluntary contribution. #happynewyear
